Client-Dependent Logging
Use
You wish to user the Audit Trail functions in a system with several productively-used clients. There are different requirements in each client with regard to the logging of data changes. In this case, you can set up the logging on a client-dependent basis.
Integration
You use the system parameter rec/client to set up client-dependent logging.
Features
Table Logs
The logging setting for each table is client-independent. However, you can set table logging at client-level using the system profile parameter rec/client. This setting then applies to all the tables selected for table logging. You cannot differentiate between Customizing tables and other tables.
With regard to the rec/client profile parameter, bear in mind that changes to client-independent tables are logged as soon as the table logging facility has been activated within a client. The archiving of table logs using the archiving object BC_DBLOGS is client-independent. The evaluation of table logs using the report RSVTPROT (both archived and non-archived) and the transaction S_ AUT10 is client-dependent.
Change Documents
The logging setting for each data element for the creation of change documents is client-independent. However, many applications allow you to create change documents in application-specific Customizing. More information is available in SAP Note 582342. In general, the archiving of change documents is carried out with the object whose changes they contain. The evaluation of change documents using application-specific evaluation functions and the transaction S_AUT10 is client-dependent.
Long Text Logs
The system records changes to long texts in the form of table logs. Basically, what has been said about table logs also applies to long text logs. However, the configuration of the long-text deletion facility in transaction S_AUT04 and long text deletion using transaction S_AUT05 or report AUT_DEL is client-dependent.
You can also activate or deactivate the logging of long text changes completely for each client and text object using the filter for long text logging. For more information, see Filter for Long Text Logging.
The archiving of long text logs using the archiving object S_AUT_LTXT is client-dependent. The evaluation of archived long text logs using the Archive Information System and the evaluation of non-archived long text logs using transaction S_AUT10 are also client-dependent.
