Versioning of Info Objects
Use
Different versions are created when info objects are maintained in the SAP Knowledge Warehouse:
-
Editing an info object (to correct, improve or update it) for a new release creates content versions.
-
Translating a content object into other languages creates language versions.
-
Modification of a standard SAP information object for an enhancement creates enhancement versions (for example, industry versions and customer versions). This is a specialized form of content versions.
-
The use of different document formats for maintaining and displaying content objects means that various format versions are maintained.
All versions of an info object refer to the same topic, in the case of online documentation to a particular aspect of the SAP system and its use (for example, a certain function, procedure, and so on).
The SAP Knowledge Warehouse distinguishes between a logical info object and the associated physical info objects:
The logical info object (LOIO) represents all info objects that have the same topic. However, it does not have any attributes such as language, format, file size, and so on.
The physical info objects (PHIO) belonging to a logical info object are the info object versions that represent the contents, language and format versions of the topic.
The following graphic shows the relationship between logical and physical info objects in the SAP Knowledge Warehouse:
The context settings determine the version chosen in the SAP Knowledge Warehouse.
All the contents except for those of the SAP standard are maintained in enhancement contexts: Maintaining Enhancement Contents. Enhancement contexts are created with the IMG activity .
Activities
When editing info objects via SAP GUI for Windows, every time you save an edited info object, a new version and therefore, a new physical info object is created automatically. In addition to the new content or language version, a new (HTML) display format version is created when saving selected Info Object Classes (for example slide/text).
