Selection Horizon The planning horizon defines until when dependent requirements are to be included in planning for demand-driven, supply-to-production. For consumption-based supply segments, this is “now”.
If you work with dependent requirements from SAP APO, you can define a selection horizon as well as a planning horizon. As it is possible that processing has already commenced for orders that lie in the near future, it may make sense to define a selection horizon when selecting APO dependent requirements. You use the selection horizon if you work with asynchronous goods issue postings.
Note
If you do not define any selection horizon, the selection horizon corresponds to the planning horizon plus one hour (safety buffer).
This is shown in the following diagram:

A safety buffer of one hour may be too short if orders in production are brought forward without adjusting the planning data. If the affected dependent requirements are not selected, stock inaccuracies may occur in automatic supply-to-production. To avoid such inaccuracies, you can define the selection horizon yourself.
The selection horizon defines the point in time until the dependent requirements are selected from the APO System. You can use the selection horizon to ensure that dependent requirements that lie outside the planning horizon but which have already been assembled are included in the missing quantities calculation.

Note
Note that a large selection horizon has a negative effect on system performance.
If you do not specify a selection horizon, the system automatically sets a safety buffer of one hour.
The selection horizon is only taken into account for demand-driven supply segments if it is greater than the planning horizon. For more information on the planning horizon, see also Missing Quantities Calculation .
