3D Editor Toolbar

You can use the 3D Editor toolbar to transform (move, rotate, and scale) selected objects within the current scene. Animation can be edited using the Edit keyframe animation tool along with the other 3D Editor tools. You can also use the toolbar in conjunction with the Tool Assistant to transform objects and object pivot points along their individual axes, cross section, mirror objects, and perform volume selection.

Using the toolbar you can perform the following actions:

Toolbar Option

Functional Description

Home Position
Returns the model to the previously saved view

Define Home Position: Defines a custom home position

Undo

Displays a list of the last 3D Editor actions performed on the current file, up to a maximum of 10. After you perform an undo action, the next action is displayed.

Redo

Displays a list of the last undo actions performed on the current file, up to a maximum of 10. After you perform a redo action, the next action is displayed.

Selection

Tools for using a selection area to select objects:
  • Rectangular Selection

  • Circular Selection
  • Lasso Selection
  • Rectangular Center Selection
  • Selection Lock: Locks the selection
  • Window/Crossing Selection
Pull Apart

Manually selects objects from directly within the scene, and pulls them apart from the model.

Select

Selects objects

Move

Moves selected objects relative to the selected axis or axes

Rotate

Rotates selected objects relative to the selected axis

Scale

Scales selected objects relative to the selected axis

Snap Tool

Invokes the snap tool

Edit Motion Path

Edits an object's motion path dynamically by moving the set points situated along its path.

Coordinate System

Selects a coordinate system

Insert Key

Inserts an animation key:
  • Record Position

  • Record Rotation
  • Record Scale
  • Record Opacity

Record Keyframes

Records animation keyframes

Lock Camera Position: Locks the camera, and provides the ability to adjust the camera angle based on navigational movements.

Section Cut Tool

Allows you to exclude some of a scene's geometry by removing a section to view or render only certain portions of the scene.

Cross Section Tool

Uses a cross section plane to exclude some of a scene's geometry to view or render only certain portions of the scene.

Mirror Tool

Mirrors an original object

Volume Select Tool

Creates selections based upon rectangular or spherical envelopes

Purge Scene

Tidies up the scene by removing selected unused objects

Features

The Purge Scene window is used to tidy up the scene by removing selected unused objects.

Activities

Selecting the 3D Editor Toolbar

Do one of the following:

  • On the menu bar, choose Start of the navigation pathWindow Next navigation step Toolbars Next navigation step 3D EditorEnd of the navigation path

  • Right-click menu bar and choose 3D Editor

Removing Unused Scene Objects

Choose Purge Scene on the 3D Editor toolbar, select objects that you want to remove, and choose Process.
