Embedded Search
By using the embedded search, you can search through all structured data of an SAP Business Suite application. As part of AS ABAP, the embedded search serves as the technology for the quick search and uses SAP NetWeaver as its basic technology platform. The maintenance worker can use the search in the following applications:
Information center
The information center enables access to the objects that the maintenance worker works with daily. For example, you may not know the entire key for calling an object. In this case, you can use the search to find it.
Job list
You can access the search by choosing Additional Information
either in the job list itself or in the job card preview.
The role SAP_ESH_LOCAL_ADMIN
is assigned to you.
You have defined the necessary settings in the Enterprise Search Cockpit. You define the settings in Customizing for the search, under (transaction ESH_COCKPIT
):
You have created and indexed search object connectors. For more information, see Creating and Indexing Search Object Connectors.
You have defined the basic settings for the UI technology (for example, portal address).
To do this, in the Administration Cockpit choose .
For more information about the embedded search (for example, relevant SAP Notes, configuration information, security guide, or a guide for developers), see Embedded Search.
You can use the quick search to search for search strings in the objects below.
In the advanced search, you can combine the full text search with additional search attributes that are defined for the object concerned (for example, equipment).
For the advanced search, choose an object category and also a Find form. The predefined search attributes are shown. You can change the selection of attributes and save a user-specific search query. You can define up to ten attributes for the search.
With the quick search and advanced search, you can search for search strings in the following object categories:
Technical object (equipment, functional location)
Document info record
Job (maintenance notification, maintenance order)
Confirmation
Material
Measuring point/counter
Measurement document
Task list (equipment task list, task list for functional location, general maintenance task list)
Maintenance plan/maintenance item
Object link
Purchase requisition
Purchase order
SAP delivers these defined business objects. The fields of these objects can be indexed and read by the search engine. In the search, you can either search for all categories or decide on one category (for example, jobs).
The search object templates of the business objects material, equipment, functional location, document info record, maintenance notification, object link, and measuring point/counter are modeled such that you can also search for the content of documents that are linked to the object via a document info record.
The system displays a hit list with the following features:
The hits are accumulated, and the number for each object category is displayed (for example, 20 hits for equipment, 10 for functional locations).
For each object category, the first hit is displayed.
In the list of all objects, you can display further details of an object.
If you click the link for a hit, the system displays the object.
SAP delivers predefined standard fields.
For the search result, you can select up to nine of these fields (attributes) and display them in the hit list.
Links to object-specific navigation destinations are available, for example, the following:
Display object in Web Dynpro application
Display object in back-end transaction
Display object in Asset Viewer
Add object to favorites
You can change the searchable attributes for the advanced search. To do this, select a Find form directly in the advanced search. The searchable attributes are shown. You can choose Select Attributes
to change the selection of fields.
In the template modeler, you configure the search object templates for the search object connectors or change existing search object templates. SAP delivers the following categories and search object templates as standard. In some categories, several search object templates are combined in one category:
Category technical object (contains equipment and functional location)
Category job (contains maintenance notification and maintenance order)
Category maintenance task list (contains equipment task list, functional location task list, and general maintenance task list)
Category maintenance plan/maintenance item (contains maintenance plans and maintenance items without assignment to a maintenance plan)
The virtual search object templates delivered by SAP are based on business objects. In the templates you can, for example, decide which fields can be searched for (= fields for query), or which fields are displayed in the hit list (= fields for response). You can also define which follow-up actions can be performed with a hit (for example, displaying an object in the Asset Viewer).
You will find the search object templates in the template modeler of the Enterprise Search Cockpit under . SAP delivers the following virtual search object templates:

For more information about creating or extending search object templates, or using the template modeler, see Configuration and Administration Tools.
If you want to add new business objects to the search, create a new search object template and schedule it for indexing. For more information, see Adding New Searchable Objects and Template Modeler.
If you want to define additional navigation targets for an object, you can do so by editing the corresponding object template in the template modeler. To edit navigation targets, choose .
