Settlement of date combinations
Prices for a date combination are usually lower than those prices for booking the booking units and dates in this combination individually. This means that a date combination is usually regarded as a unit from a business point of view.
The system generates a billing dataset for each publication date for a booking unit that is sold on individual dates. If you have entered the
Local north
basic booking unit and specified Wednesday and Saturday as publication dates, the system generates two billing datasets.
The system usually generates one billing dataset for a date combination. If you have entered the
Local north/WeSa
date combination, the system generates one billing dataset even though the booking unit is booked on Wednesday and on Saturday.
Caution
If the date combination is not to be handled as a business unit, you can select the
Proportional
settlement, Sep.settle.schd.line
or
Sep.settlemt ad spec
indicators in the higher-level combined booking unit
.
The system generates more than one billing dataset for this date combination.

Fixed or flexible date combination
You can enter fixed and flexible date combinations in the system:
A fixed date combination is published in defined booking units on defined dates, such as Wednesdays and Saturdays in the
Local north
booking unit
.
A flexible date combination is published in defined booking units with a particular number of placements, such as twice in the
Local north
booking unit and once in the
Local south
booking unit
.
Publication dates are not specified until the ad item is entered.
A date combination is described uniquely by its higher-level booking unit and ID code. When entering a date combination, you specify the identification key for the higher-level booking unit in the
Book.unit
field on the
Details
tab page at item level and the associated ID code in the following field.
Enter publication dates
Each date combination has several publication dates. Each publication date has a date category and publication period or date.
You can choose between date categories
D (Date), C (Copy), W (Week)
and
M (Month)
.
If you choose date category
D (Date
), you must either specify the date on which this date combination is published for the first time or a period in which the publication date for the date combination is found. If you enter a date combination that is published on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the date specified must be a Wednesday or the period specified must include the Wednesday.
The same applies to date categories
C (Copy), W (Week)
and
M (Month)
.
Generation of schedule lines
If you have entered planning data for a fixed date combination, the system generates the schedule lines automatically when you confirm this data. The system determines the dates specified when the date combination was created that can next be booked, such as the next Wednesday and Saturday that can be booked as publication dates.
If you have entered planning data for a flexible date combination, the system generates schedule lines when you confirm this data as follows:
If you have selected the
Manual schedule line generation
indicator in Customizing, you can influence schedule line generation.
A dialog box appears when you generate schedule lines manually. The system proposes the number of dates that were specified when the date combination was created and that can next be booked as publication dates. You can change these dates proposed. The system generates schedule lines for the dates proposed when you confirm these changed dates.
If you have not selected the
Manual schedule line generation
indicator in Customizing, you have no influence over schedule line generation.
The system determines the number of dates that were specified when the date combination was created and that can next be booked as publication dates. The system generates schedule lines for the dates determined automatically.
Example
You have created the date combination
LN2LS1
in the product master data. If a customer books this date combination
,
the
Local north
basic booking unit is booked twice and the
Local south
basic booking unit is booked once. The
Local north
and
Local south
basic booking units are published daily.
Customer
A
places an ad in the
LN2LS1
date combination that is to be published for the first time on a Monday. The system determines publication dates on which issues can next be booked: Local north/Monday, Local north/Tuesday. Local south/Monday.
Entering more than one date combination
To enter more than one date combination for an ad item, use the
Enter additional booking units
function to assign each additional date combination after the first date combination to the ad item.
The
Enter additional booking units
function is part of document processing and is available to you as follows during creation and modification of ad items:
Function |
Tab page |
Button |
Enter additional booking units |
Details |
|
Additional date combinations are entered on the dialog box.
Example
A customer places an ad in the
Local North/WeSa
date combination and the
Local South/WeSa
date combination
.
When creating the ad item, the user enters the
Local
north
/
WeSa
date combination on the
Details
tab page and the
Local south/WeSa
date combination as an additional booking unit in a dialog box.
Note that you cannot enter additional date combinations or have limited options for doing so in the following situations:
If date combination
A
contains the same booking unit as date combination
B
, you cannot enter these date combinations in
a single
ad item.
You can only enter the same booking unit once in an ad item. You cannot for instance enter the
Local
north
/
WeSa
and
Local
north
/
TuTh
date combinations in a single ad item.
If date combination
A
combines different dates than those in date combination
B,
you should only enter these date combinations in a single ad item if you have selected the
BU+
indicator in Customizing.
When generating the schedule lines, the system checks whether the publication dates for the first date combination are identical to those for the second date combination:
If you have selected the
Filter BU+
indicator in Customizing, you can enter date combinations independently of publication dates in an ad item. You can for instance enter the
Local
north
/
WeSa
and
Local
south
/
TuTh
date combinations in an ad item. The system generates schedule lines for all booking units and publication dates.
If you have not selected the
Filter BU+
indicator in Customizing, you should only enter date combinations with publication dates that match completely or partially. If you enter the
Local north/WeSa
and
Local south/WeSa
date combinations or the
Local north/WeSa
and
Local south/MoSa
date combinations in an ad item, the system only generates schedule lines for booking units with matching publication dates.
