Function documentationMass Creation of Events

You use this report to create events for a specified period that is either in the future or the past. You can create an event with the same parameters for multiple planning objects.

Integration

After you have run the report, you can use the events the system has found, during forecasting to estimate the impact of future events. Additionally, you can clean the history from the impacts of events during forecasting.

Prerequisites

You can run this report if the following applies:

  • You have defined a planning level in Customizing, for Advanced Planning and Optimization, under Start of the navigation path Supply Chain Planning Next navigation step Demand Planning (DP) Next navigation step Basic Settings Next navigation step Specify Planning Levels End of the navigation path. Make sure that this planning level is the same as the one you use for forecasting and ABC/XYZ classification.

  • You have created a selection for which you want the system to create an event.

  • You have created other event types that you would like to use.

Other event types, are, for example, Christmas, or other festivals and holidays. You have assigned these event types to one of the event catalogs you specified in Customizing for Advanced Planning and Optimization, under Start of the navigation path Supply Chain Planning Next navigation step Demand Planning (DP) Next navigation step Basic Settings Next navigation step Events and Outliers Next navigation step Configure Outlier Detection and Event Catalog Assignments End of the navigation path.

To use this function, you must activate the business function SCM-APO-FCS, Events and Outliers, Causals, ABC/XYZ Classification (SCM_APO_FORECASTING_1). For more information, see SCM-APO-FCS, Events and Outliers, Causals, ABC/XYZ Classification.

Features

Selection Handling

You specify a selection for which you want to create the events. You can either use an existing, predefined selection, or create a new one by choosing the Edit Selection pushbutton.

Event Creation

The system considers the attributes of the event types to determine the total duration of the event.

Example Example

You specify 31.05.2009 as the event date. You have defined the event type in monthly buckets. The occurrence definition of the event type says that the event has an effect 1 period before and 1 period after the actual occurrence. It also says that the event type has a duration of 1 period. In this case, the system creates an event that starts on 01.04.2009 and lasts for 3 periods.

End of the example.

Activities

To access this report, on the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Start of the navigation path Advanced Planning and Optimization Next navigation step Demand Planning Next navigation step Planning Next navigation step Promotion Next navigation step Mass Creation of Events End of the navigation path.

When you run the Mass Creation of Events report, the system performs the following activities:

  1. As an optional step, the system checks the history for previously created events in the time horizon of the event type. The system performs this preprocessing step only in case you select the Consider Existing Events checkbox.

  2. The system creates the events on the specified date, with the event type you specify in the Event Type field, for all the planning objects you specify.

    • If the event date you specified lies in the future, the system calculates the event's impacts based on the historic events of the same type. For more information, see Future Event Estimation.

    • If the event date you specified lies in the past, the system calculates the event's impacts from the historical data. For more information, see Automatic Outlier Detection and Event Generation.

  3. If there is an existing event in the period you specified that matches the event type of the event you specified, the system checks whether the existing event covers a smaller time frame than the event you want to create. If the newly created event covers a larger time frame, the system overwrites the existing event with the new one, with the reestimated impact and event type.

  4. If the system created new events for a past period, and you have selected the Trigger Forecast checkbox, the system triggers statistical forecasting for these planning objects, so that forecasting can consider the newly created events as well.

    Note Note

A forecast profile must be assigned to the planning objects for the forecasting function to work.

    End of the note.
