Function documentation Variant Configuration in the AFS System Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

In the AFS System you can use the variant configuration of the R/3 Standard system. That way you can produce complex products to meet the requests of certain customers. The customers specify the exact appearance of the end product.

Example

A customer orders boots. The customer specifies the height of the heels, how to form the tip and which ornamentations are to be applied.

You do not create a separate material master for each product variant that exists in your company. You create this product as a configurable material and assign a super BOM to it. In it you enter all components, characteristic values, and so on that the customers might use to order the product.

This way you make sure that

Features

FERT Generator for the Creation of Finished Products during the Variant Configuration

In contrast to the variant configuration of the R/3 Standard, each material variant in the AFS system that results from a configuration is always a storable finished product.

The cause for this is:

You can only create a requirement in the sales order by using a storable material. Only then can the system make an assignment between requirement and stock in the allocation run. Then you can transfer the order document to the delivery.

Note

In the AFS system you can only transfer the order document to the delivery if you have first carried out the allocation run. By using the sales order you create requirements in the system. During the allocation run the system tries to assign sufficient quantities of stock to these requirements.

You can use the FERT Generator in AFS to immediately create finished products during the variant configuration.
