Advanced Distribution for Capacity Planning 

Use

You use this function to simplify the process of manually entering amounts for a capacity view in a capacity group.

To apply the advanced distribution, you navigate as follows: Portfolio Management ® Portfolio Management. In an object dashboard, select an object. In the object overview, choose Capacity Planning, click a particular category. This takes you to the Capacity Planning: Category Groups view. Here you can expand all the views of a group for the selected category. Select a view and click Advanced Distribution.

Prerequisites

·        You have defined the distribution type of the capacity group in Customizing of SAP xApp Resource and Portfolio Management (SAP xRPM) under Global Customizing  ® Portfolio-Independent Settings  ® Define Financial and Capacity Categories.

·        You have defined the capacity views as Manual in Customizing of SAP xApp Resource and Portfolio Management (SAP xRPM) under Global Customizing  ® Portfolio-Independent Settings  ® Define Financial and Capacity Views.

Activities

The following options have to be filled in the distribution function window:

Field	Explanation
Valid From	You specify the starting date for the distribution. If you do not enter a value in this field, the system takes the current financial planning start date. You can specify this date as a date before the present financial planning start date. In this case, the system adds and displays new columns for new periods.
Valid To	You specify the end date for the distribution. If you do not enter a value in this field, the system takes the current financial planning end date. You can specify this date as a date after the present financial planning end date. In this case, the system adds and displays new columns for new periods.
Required Capacity	You specify the capacity which is to be distributed along the timeline.
Unit	The value displayed is the capacity planning unit present at the item/initiative/bucket or what-if level. You can also select any other capacity unit for distribution purpose. When your select a unit other than the capacity planning unit, the required capacity is converted from this unit to the capacity planning unit and distributed accordingly.
Action Type	You select the action type from the drop down list. The action type indicates how the distributed capacity affects the current capacity. The following action types are available: ... ·        Set required capacity as new capacity ·        Add required capacity to current capacity ·        Subtract required capacity from from current capacity
Calculation Base	You select the calculation base from the drop down list. The calculation base decides how the required value is distributed along the timeline. You have the following calculation bases available: ... ·        Per day ·        Complete interval ·        This option is retrieved from the capacity planning period breakdown type defined for the item/initiative/bucket or what-if level.
Distribution Type	The distribution type determines how actual calculations are done during advanced distribution, that is, whether to divide capacities approximately or divide according to factory calendar and so on. This is a read-only field. You have set the value of this field, for example the distribution type for a particular group, in the IMG activity Define Financial and Capacity Categories. You can choose between the following distribution types: ·        Based on factory calendar working days ·        Based on calendar days ·        Based on fixed number of days ·        Based on number of months in the period

       1.      To distribute the amounts when you have entered values in all the fields mentioned above, choose Confirm.

       2.      The distributed amounts are displayed in the main Capacity Planning: Category Groups view.

       3.      You can change these amounts.

Example

Consider the example of an item with monthly capacity breakdown type.

Let the number of days and working days in the months January to May be as shown below:

Following are the choices made in the distribution function and the calculated capacities for January and February depending on the choices:

·        Required Capacity: 1000

·        Valid from: 22 Jan 2006

·        Valid to: 15 May 2006

1. Calculation Base: Per Day

1.1. Distribution Type: Factory Calendar Working Days

Capacity for January: 8 * 1000

Capacity for Feb:  20*1000

1.2. Distribution Type: Fixed Number of Days

Capacity for January: (10  /  31 * 22 ) * 1000

Capacity for Feb : 22 * 1000

1.3. Distribution Type: Calendar Days

Capacity for January: 10 * 1000

Capacity for Feb : 28 * 1000

1.4. Distribution Type: Based on Number of Months

Capacity for January:  10 * 1000

Capacity for Feb:  28 * 1000

 

2. Calculation Base: Complete Interval

2.1. Distribution Type: Factory Calendar Working Days

Capacity for January: 8  * 1000 /  88

Capacity for Feb:  20  * 1000 /  88

2.2. Distribution Type: Fixed Number of Days

Days in January = (10  /  31 * 22 )

Capacity for January: Days in January * 1000 / (Sum of days in Jan to May)

Days in Feb =  22

Capacity for Feb: Days in Feb * 1000 / (Sum of days in Jan to May)

2.3. Distribution Type: Calendar Days

Capacity for January: 10 * 1000 / 114

Capacity for Feb:  28  * 1000 /  114

2.4. Distribution Type: Based on Number of Months

Capacity for January:  1000 / 5

Capacity for Feb: 1000 / 5

 

3. Calculation Base: From Periodic Breakdown

3.1. Distribution Type: Factory Calendar Working Days

Capacity for January: 8 / 22 * 1000

Capacity for Feb:  1000

3.2. Distribution Type: Fixed Number of Days

Capacity for January: 10/22 * 1000

Capacity for Feb: 1000

3.3. Distribution Type: Calendar Days
