Generating a Material BOM for an Engineering BOM
Creating a material bill of materials (MatBOM) for an engineering bill of material (EBOM) is done through a planning scope. You can create several alternatives of the planning scope. Depending on the planning scope alternatives, there can be multiple MatBOMs associated with an EBOM in SAP ERP. You can also include planning scope alternatives for the sub-assemblies within the main MatBOM of the EBOM.
Material used in a planning scope must be available in the same plant for which the planning scope is being created.
The document for which you want to create a MatBOM has a document structure and a converted Computer Aided Design (CAD) file in the .RH format attached.
You have made the Customizing settings for Define Search Sequence for Viewable File under .
You have installed SAP Visual Enterprise Planner in your local system.
From the SAP Easy Access menu, choose .
Or
Use the transaction CDESK to retrieve a document and start planning. You can navigate to Launch VE Planner (transaction VMP_MAINTAIN) from the Additional Functions dropdown on the SAP View tab page.
The Manage Planning Scopes screen appears.
Enter the document details of the document for which you want to create a planning scope alternative or change an existing one.
Note
You can also see the document in the CAD desktop by choosing the Show in CDesk icon. You can view the document and original material assigned to the document.
You can either create a new planning scope alternative, change an existing one or delete a planning scope alternative.
Enter the following parameters while creating a new planning alternative:
Planning Scope Type: Specify whether the planning scope is for an assembly or a purchased part:
Assembly: If you create planning scope for an assembly, you specify the details of the MatBOM to be used when planning the assembly in SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Planner. This is selected by default.
Purchased Part: If you create a planning scope for a purchased part, MatBOM details are not required. The planning scope of a purchased part is not available for editing when it is opened in SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Planner. You can also mark an existing planning scope as a purchased part if, for example, the part is no longer produced but procured.
Document: This is a key that uniquely identifies a document info record in the SAP system. Enter the following data that constitutes the document key:
Document Number
Document Type
Document Part
Document Version
Description: This refers to the planning scope description.
Target System: This is the remote function call (RFC) information of the plant specific system from which the MatBOM details are to be obtained and validated to create the planning scope alternative. The MatBOMs are created in the same system when planning scope is synced from SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Planner to SAP ERP.
Note
If the target system is same as the logged on system, you can leave this field empty.
Plant: This is the plant to which all the materials in the document structure are assigned in the material master. This is applicable only for those materials or MatBOMs that you want to plan in the planning scope.
BOM Usage: This refers to the area where a MatBOM can be used.
Change Number: This is the number used to uniquely identify a change master record. The date effectivity of the change number should be current date or future date (valid from date). You can retrieve an existing change number or you can create a new change number by choosing Create ECN.
Note
While creating a change number, in Object Types, select the checkbox Actv for Bill of Materials. This indicates that this change number can be used to process objects of this object type (such as, BOM).
Assign Legacy BOM: If there are existing legacy MatBOMs for the material, they can be associated with the planning scope alternative while creating it. To assign a legacy MatBOM, select the checkbox Assign Legacy BOM and specify the legacy MatBOM in the field BOM Alt. If you select this checkbox, the assigned legacy MatBOM hierarchy is exploded and the resulting MatBOMs are attached to this planning scope alternative.
Select the planning scope alternative which you want to change.
You can edit the planning scope alternative.
You are not allowed to change the document number, document type, and document part fields.
You should enter a version greater than the existing version of the document.
If the Checked Out checkbox is selected, it refers that another user is working on the same planning scope alternative. When the planning scope alternative is being planned, the Checked Out checkbox is selected. If you want to cancel the planning session, you can cancel it by deselecting this checkbox.
You can delete the MatBOMs associated to the planning scope alternative.
If there are MatBOMs associated to this planning scope alternative, the following parameters can not be modified:
Target System
Plant
MBOM Usage
Choose Save & Start Planning. The planning scope alternative (EBOM) appears in SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Planner.
In SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Planner, you can create the target MatBOM.
You can save the planning scope alternative intermediately. An .SSD (SAP Structure definition) file is saved in your local system from where you can open the alternative again for modifications.
To publish the planned MatBOM to SAP ERP, choose Synchronize to SAP ERP. A connection between SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Planner and the SAP ERP system is established.
