ABAP SMI offers several collaboration components based on SAPUI5 that can be enabled when you integrate SAP Jam with an SAP Fiori app. These components allow you to enable typical social media collaboration features directly in your SAP Fiori app. The collaboration components described below are available for integration with SAP Jam:

Social Timeline Component
Note

The Social Timeline component is not currently suitable for use on mobile devices, as it does not display properly.

The Social Timeline component allows you to view a feed of the updates to business objects in the SAP back-end system and the social content from SAP Jam, such as the object’s discussion posts and replies in SAP Jam, directly in the SAP Fiori app.

The Social Timeline component provides users with a rich collaborative experience directly from their SAP Fiori app. You can access many of the main features available in SAP Jam directly from the social timeline, including the following:
  • User photo display
If a user has a profile photo in SAP Jam, this photo displays beside the entry in the social timeline.
Note Depending on the laws of your region, certain security concerns related to personal information may need to be addressed. For more information, see Data Storage and Protection.
  • Creation of social content

You can create and reply to discussion post entries in the social timeline in the SAP Fiori app.

  • Notification of other users

You can use SAP Jam’s @mention (@<email address>) feature when creating or replying to a social timeline entry. All users listed receive a notification in their SAP Jam Notification Center, home feed in SAP Jam, and, if applicable, the Notifications tile on the SAP Fiori launchpad.

  • Access to social profile
You can view another user’s social profile directly from a feed entry in the social timeline. The social profile contains the public information about the user from SAP Jam, such as the name, photo, job title, and contact information. The dialog also contains a button to navigate to the user’s full social profile in SAP Jam, where more information and collaboration options are available.
    Note

Access to the social profile is not available for reply entries in the social timeline.

Information Management Within the Social Timeline

Filtering

To make it easier to find the information you are looking for, several predefined filters are available to help you sort through the entries in your social timeline. You can filter based on discussion posts created in SAP Jam or the social timeline, or system-generated post reflecting updates made to the business object in the back-end system.

As well, the app can define additional custom filtering options based on typical use cases.

App-Specific Custom Actions for Entries from the Back-End System

Depending on your business needs, your SAP Fiori app may include support for additional actions that users can perform directly from the social timeline.
Example The Social Timeline component for your app is set up so that you can edit timeline entries of type "note" directly from the timeline. The app then sends the updated information to the back-end system, and the information is now visible to all users who can access the business object and the associated social timeline.
Discuss (Feed) Dialog Component

The Discuss Dialog component allows you to view and contribute to SAP Jam through a feed assigned to a business object. This type of feed is available in SAP Fiori apps where it is used as the Discuss feature.

Share Dialog Component

The Share Dialog component allows you to share business objects and attachments with your group in SAP Jam. You can also include comments about the business objects you are sharing. You can share the following in SAP Jam:

  • Business objects
  • Attachments
  • Business objects with attachments
Note
  • Attachment files can only be retrieved from the back-end system server, not a local device.

  • If the business object attachment files are large, the file upload process may time out and prevent the attachments from being uploaded. Due to several unknown factors that can cause a timeout, it is not currently possible to provide guidance on a maximum file size.

  • If you use Internet Explorer as your browser, you must use IE 10.0 or higher.

In some SAP Fiori apps, you can share information about a business object by posting a URL link and comments to a Feed post in SAP Jam. The link leads your group members to the business object in your SAP Fiori app.
