This section describes the new and changed features for SAP NetWeaver Business Client 4.0.
As of SAP NetWeaver Business Client 4.0 administrators can configure this integration in the admin configuration file. When users try to connect to a system for which the Use Secure Login Client setting is activated, NWBC triggers Secure Login Client to create a X.509 certificate.
The Secure Login client exists for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. The windows component provides security protocols and credentials for SAP GUI (SNC, SSF) and Web-based SAP NetWeaver access (SSL). SLC comes with the following optional and complementary end user token support:
Use cases are as follows:
Secure Login Client (SLC) can use authentication mechanisms like user name and password or several other authentication mechanisms like RSA token. Dependent on the Secure Login Server profile the SLC integration of NWBC prompts you to enter your credentials in order to receive a short living user X.509 certificate to skip the Web-based logon process of NWBC.
A mobile user connects to his offline machine and then creates a VPN connection. In this case it is similar to use case 1. The SLC integration of NWBC is able to create a short living X.509 certificate to skip the Web-based logon and grants access to the SAP NetWeaver Application Server.
The Secure Login Client is installed and configured on your computer. For more information about how to configure the relevant settings for this integration, see the admin configuration file at %PROGRAMDATA%\SAP\NWBC \NwbcOptions.xml.

System Selection Dialog (Changed)
As of SAP NetWeaver Business Client 4.0 the Use Secure Login Client setting is available in the system selection dialog if the administrator allows this setting for the user. This setting enables a secure logon for each system connection based on the Secure Login Client and SAP Single Sign-On 2.0 integration. When this setting is activated and users try to connect to a system, NWBC triggers Secure Login Client to create a X.509 certificate. When the logon process through the Secure Login Client is complete, NWBC continues with the logon process and considers the new certificate.
Prerequisites
SAP Single Sign-On 2.0
The Secure Login Client is installed and configured on your computer.
The Secure Login integration is configured in the admin configuration file. For more information, see Administrator Configuration in SAP Library for User Interface Add-On 1.0 SPS 03 for SAP NetWeaver on SAP Help Portal at http://help.sap.com/nw-uiaddon .
With SAP NetWeaver Business Client 4.0, you can also connect to SAP NetWeaver 7.0x and 7.40 based systems using the server runtime for SAP NetWeaver user interface (UI) services. The server runtime for SAP NetWeaver UI services provides a release-independent way to quickly deliver new features like theming capabilities to your system landscape.
Activating the ICF Service (New)
The Internet Communication Framework (ICF) allows you to communicate with the SAP system using Internet standard protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, and SMTP).
Within the ICF tree, the server runtime for SAP NetWeaver user interface services also has a node that can be found by default under the path /sap/bc/ui2/nwbc. This node must be active to enable any NWBC client to access the server.
Definition of Configuration Parameters (New)
As of SAP NetWeaver Business Client 4.0 you can perform server-side configuration in Customizing if you connect to the server runtime for SAP NetWeaver UI services.
You have the following options to perform the configuration depending on the server runtime version you connect to:
Data is not migrated from table NWBC_CFG used with a version 3.5 server runtime to the transactions in Customizing. If you use the server runtime for SAP NetWeaver user interface services 3.6, you have to enter your data again.
Data for SAP GUI tags is read from both the tables that are used by version 3.5 of the server runtime for SAP NetWeaver Business Client and 3.6 of the server runtime for SAP NetWeaver user interface services.
If you have already maintained SAP GUI tags in the Customizing for a version 3.5 server runtime, this data continues to be read for usage with a newer runtime. This means you do not have to enter it again.
This new Customizing table is different from the NWBC_CFG table used by version 3.5 of the server runtime for SAP NetWeaver Business Client. Table NWBC_CFG is no longer considered if you connect to the newer server runtime for SAP NetWeaver UI services.
For more information, see SAP Library for User Interface Add-On 1.0 SPS 03 for SAP NetWeaver on SAP Help Portal at http://help.sap.com/nw-uiaddon .
The table shows the correct SP levels:
SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP Back End with NWBC Server Version <3.5 (*) | SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP Back End with NWBC Server Version 3.5 or higher (*) |
---|---|
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SP21 | SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SP28 |
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP1 SP06 | SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP1 SP12 |

Currently SAP NetWeaver Business Client for Desktop does not handle launchpad links. That means, if there is an entry in PFCG for a launchpad link, this entry does not appear in the navigation.
Prerequisites
NWBC is released for Microsoft Windows 8 desktop mode in combination with Internet Explorer 10 for the desktop. Usage with keyboard and mouse is fully supported, but NWBC is not touch-enabled.
