You use the Splitscreen Editor to display the source code of two ABAP programs, two function modules, two methods or two local class includes next to each other and to compare them. The Splitscreen Editor offers a subset of the standard ABAP Editor functions and additional features for comparing source code inside a single SAP system and across SAPsystems.

Integration

You use the Splitscreen Editor:

  • as an ABAP Workbench tool (transaction SE39).
  • in the Modification Assistant as an editor for comparing the actual source from the database with the modified source from the temporary storage.
  • in the version management.
Implementation Considerations

If you want to use the Splitscreen Editor with the Modification Assistant, see Aligning Program Sections. If you want to compare source code across systems, the remote system should be listed in the RFC destinations table RFCDES.

Features
  • Comparison of source code within a system and across systems (cross-system comparison is available only for programs).
  • Synchronization is statement-based instead of line-based.
  • Each half of the screen is a version of the ABAP Editor with a restricted range of functions.
  • Additional functions, such as comparison, text positioning, copying blocks to the other window, and changing the size of the two halves of the display window (only in the Front-End Editor)
  • User-specific settings (Utilities → Settings). For example, you can choose whether to use the Front-End (new and old version) or the Back-End ABAP Editor.
