Fundamentals and Overview
The extended notifications for SAP Business Workflow comprise two phases: selection of the relevant work items and delivery of the notifications. You make the required entries in the browser-based administration application.
To define the relevant work items, first define corresponding selections. You define the following in a selection:
· Single-step tasks whose work items are to be selected
· Schedule for selection
· Category to which the selected work items are to be assigned, for example Leave Request or Shopping Cart Approval.
The SWN_SELSEN report checks the scheduling for the individual selections. If a selection is due to be executed, the report selects the work items and saves them as notifications. The notifications are assigned to the category that you specified in the selection.
You define how the notifications are to be delivered in subscriptions. In a subscription you must define the following:
· Category that contains the work items for which notifications are to be sent
· Schedule for delivery
· Delivery type (e-mail or SMS)
· Message structure
· Message recipient
The SWN_SELSEN report checks the scheduling for the individual subscriptions. If a subscription is due to be executed, the notifications that are assigned to the category specified in the subscription are sent.
Notifications are assigned during the selection of a category, which is the basis for subscriptions. The category is used to determine which notifications are to be delivered.

The selection and delivery processes are performed by the SWN_SELSEN report. You must schedule this report as a background job.
