Task Area

The shift manager, together with his team, is responsible for ensuring that the plan created by the production planner is carried out during a shift. His area of responsibility extends across a production area or one or more production lines.

The shift manager has personnel responsibility and sometimes also cost center responsibility for his area.

A shift manager has the following tasks:

He checks the availability of resources (lines, materials, and personnel).
He assigns the tasks and releases them for execution.
He monitors their execution as well as their confirmation.
He initiates the correction of malfunctions and deviations from the standard.
He makes usage decisions for in-process quality inspections.
He creates the order record or batch record when production has been completed.

Structure

Tasks in the Business Information Warehouse

The plant manager has administrative management functions and carries out operation/work center analyses as well as capacity and quality analyses. To accomplish these tasks, BW provides business content information in the form of workbooks. Each task corresponds to a cluster of one or more workbooks.
