Function documentationMigration Package

The migration of your system landscape is based on migration packages.

Migration packages are a combination of all necessary programs and settings to transfer the reduced data based on your selection criteria.

Note Note

One migration package is created for a particular migration solution.

End of the note.

You are using SAP Test Data Migration Server Release 4.0.

Additional prerequisites for creating a migration package:

  • You have created a project.

  • You have assigned a system landscape.

  • You are in the Projects view in the execution plan.

  • Contents: Migration packages include:

    • A migration logic for a table field

    • Special exits that contain the required migration routines and data definitions

  • Technical Name: The migration package assembled for your project has a five-digit technical name and starts with <9...>.

  • Phases: Migration packages contain the following phases:

    • Technical Setting

    • Configuration and Selection

    • Data Transfer

    • Post Transfer processing

  • Active Migration Packages: A migration package is active when activities are getting executed.

More than one migration package can be active within a project.

When carrying out data scrambling, only a single package can be set as active for each client.

  • Copy Migration Packages: The Copy Package feature enables the reuse of parameters and configuration settings across packages.

If you copy a package, the system deactivates the package and sets the status of the step as Canceled. The system creates a new step with the status In Process. The new step contains the copied package.

For more information, see the Operations Guide for SAP TDMS 4.0 on SAP Service Marketplace at published on SAP site.

Note Note

The package adopts the language settings of the execution system and cannot be changed later at the package level.

End of the note.

The execution of a migration package consists of the following steps:

  • Loading the package or the packages

  • Processing the activities

  • Carrying out technical and content checks (according to the migration solution)

  • Generating the migration programs

Creating Migration Packages

  1. Switch to the editing mode.

  2. Choose Create Package.

The system creates the package with a unique number (beginning with 9) and activates the process tree.

  3. After the package is created, you can call up the process tree directly from the project view using the assigned package number (link).

A new phase can only be activated in the process tree of a migration project after the previous phase is completed (green traffic light).
