Background documentationSolution: Time-Based Reduction for SAP NetWeaver BW

This migration solution is applicable to the migration of data from an SAP NetWeaver BW system.

With this migration solution, you can migrate the following types of data:

  • Transactional Data: You are required to specify a data slice date, whereby SAP TDMS migrates all transactional data created on and after this date from the sender system to the receiver system.

In SAP NetWeaver BW, transactional data is stored in InfoCubes and DSO objects. SAP TDMS reduces the InfoCube fact tables based on time characteristics and the DSO tables based on time-based fields.

    Note Note

To ensure data consistency in the receiver client for the specified data slice date, SAP TDMS transfers additional transactional data that is business-relevant.

    End of the note.
  • Master Data and Customizing Data: SAP TDMS transfers all InfoObjects to avoid any inconsistencies in the receiver system.

  • Aggregates: After data transfer, SAP TDMS rolls up and updates the aggregates based on the data present in the InfoCubes in the receiver system.

  • PSA Tables: By default, SAP TDMS does not transfer PSA tables. However, you can choose to transfer these tables.

  • Changelog Tables: By default, SAP TDMS does not transfer Changelog tables. However, you can choose to transfer these tables.

Integration

You can carry out data scrambling in the sender system after selecting data and before transferring the data to the receiver system.

SAP TDMS copies the data selected for transfer to a data cluster and scrambles the cluster data before transfer.

Features

Phases

This migration solution includes the following phases:

  • Package Settings

In this phase, you make certain technical settings such as assigning logical system names in the receiver system, excluding user-related data from data transfer, specifying scrambling rules, selecting additional customer-created tables for transfer and so on.

You decide which tables must be transferred in a reduced form, excluded from transfer, or transferred completely to ensure that the receiver client has an optimal data set.

  • System Analysis

You execute background activities that prepare the migration objects for transfer and generate programs for data deletion.

You confirm your settings so that they become effective for the data transfer.

  • Data Transfer

In this phase, you execute TDMS header activities to select business process data. You also execute the final checks before data transfer to ensure that no significant changes have taken place in the repository of the sender system while your SAP TDMS project is running.

SAP TDMS deletes the existing data from the receiver client and starts the data transfer. You can lock the users in the receiver system so that no changes take place during deletion.

  • Post-Transfer Processing

In this phase, SAP TDMS makes a few post-transfer settings in the receiver system such as adjustment of number ranges, roll up and update of aggregates, and adjustment of Business Workplace tables.

If you had set a lock on users in the receiver system during data deletion, you can unlock the users now.

You can additionally clear the temporary tables filled during the data migration in all participating systems.
