Features

You can do the following in a Ranking report:

Feature

Description

Select the metrics displayed in the report

You can select metrics for the report. For information, see Data Adjusting.

Select the dimension members filters

You can select dimension members for the report and you can also select filters for dimensions not displayed in the report. For information, see Data Adjusting.

For information about using the Select dialog box, see Dimension Member Selection in Select Dialog Boxes.

Set the time frame

You can examine progress versus historical performance by changing time frames. The time frame settings vary depending on the type of Ranking report you are displaying.

For information, see Time Setting with Time, Metrics, or Dimensions Across the Report.

Set the presentation

You can specify the presentation of the report by setting the report type, the row limits, selecting the dimension displayed down the report, suppressing portions of long labels, controlling the display of 80/20 columns, controlling the display of row totals, and setting user-defined hierarchies.

You can set any of these report types:

  • You can rank a dimension's members by one metric to see which members perform the best or worst over a specific time period. Ranking dimension members by one metric answers the question “What are my top or bottom performers for the designated time frame?”

  • You can rank the members by a comparison of two equal time frames to analyze the changes in performance over time. This report type shows dimensions down the table, a time period in column 1 and a comparison time period in column 2, and a measure to report on. Ranking two time periods answers the question, “Are my top or bottom performers always carrying out the same performance, or have they fluctuated since the last period?”

You can also rank dimensions down the table, a time period in column 1 and a fixed target value in column 2, and a measure to report on. When setting fixed target values, you specify the target value for each row. The report shows the values for the time period, the target values you entered, and the percent variance between the reported values and target values.

  • You can rank the members by a comparison of two metrics to analyze the similarities or differences between those metrics. This report type shows dimensions down the table, a metric in column 1 and a comparison metric in column 2, and a time period to report on. The report shows the metrics and the percent variance between them during that time period. Comparing two metrics answers the question “Are the top or bottom performers in one area also top or bottom performers in other areas of the business?”

Or, you can rank metrics down the table, a time period in column 1 and a fixed target value in column 2. When setting fixed target values, you specify the target value for each row. The report shows the values for the time period, the target values you entered, and the percent variance between the reported values and target values.

  • You can identify the best and worst performers based on their percentage contribution to the total business result. The 80/20 feature answers the question “Which performers contributed the most or the least to my total result?” This 80/20 feature uncovers situations where a few business members are contributing heavily to the total business result, or many business members are contributing a little to the total business result. For example, you can find out whether products follow the 80/20 rule where 20% of the products account for 80% of the sales.

For information, see Presentation Setting in Ranking.

For information, see Layout Selection in Ranking.

For information, see User-Defined Hierarchy Development.

Display the chart

You can control the display of the chart, specify which items are charted, and set charting features.

If you are displaying the default horizontal bar chart, the values of the items displayed across the table are charted along the horizontal axis and the dimension member displayed down the table are charted on the y-axis. The horizontal bars represent the contribution of the across item to the down dimension members, in relation to the time frame and metrics and filters selected.

For information, see Graph Settings.

Sort a column

The column is displayed with a gray background to quickly identify which column being sorted. An arrow appears in the column next to the column label. The arrow points in the direction in which the information is being sorted.

Drill up and down on dimensions

If you drill down and get a message stating that no data matches your criteria, you can drill up to redisplay data. You can drill up only as high as the level at which you started drilling.

Update your view

You can update your view after changing settings. If Update View appears grayed out, it means there are no report changes.
