The Index KPI
An index KPI (key performance indicator) is a named aspect of the company strategy that is measured by the status of particular standard KPIs defined for the context.
Use index KPIs to measure the status and progress toward strategic objectives. The objectives are measured by the overall status of the standard KPIs that compose the index KPI.
An index KPI has the following structure:
The context in which this index KPI is used.
An identifying name.
A round circle called a status indicator, which only appears in the application.
The color of the status indicator represents the performance of this KPI. The status indicator color is determined as follows: the status color of each standard KPI is matched to the same color in the Index Values list. Based on the color match, each standard KPI is assigned that index value. The index values are then used in the specified calculation. The resulting value from the calculation is matched to the appropriate color in the Index Values list, and that color is used for the index KPI's status indicator.
A description.
Typically, you would enter a textual version of the calculation that makes up the KPI. For example, Store Effectiveness = Store Productivity, Store Efficiency, and Store Units Sold.
Associated links (optional).
Add a URL address for the Web site that supports this KPI.
A perspective you want to associate with this index KPI.
The order in which it is displayed for the perspective.
The name of a user who is responsible for this KPI.
A calculation method performed on the scores of the standard KPIs selected for this index KPI.
The resulting value form the calculation is matched to a color in the Index Values section and the index KPI takes that status color.
The list of standard KPIs from the perspective that are selected for this index KPI.
The statuses of these KPIs are used along with the calculation method to determine the status of the index KPI.
A list of sequential numbers (index values) from low (red) to high (green).
These numbers represent the relative index of the KPI. For example, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 if using five status indicators, or 2, 3, 4 if using three status indicators.
In the application, index KPIs are listed under their associated perspective, similar to the way standard KPIs are listed.
Each index KPI has a (-) sign or (+) to show that it is a collapsible and expandable list. Click the (+) to display an indented list of the underlying standard KPIs that compose the index KPI. Click the (-) to collapse the list and view only the index KPI.
(Optional) Comments and an associated initiative.
Since it is not associated directly with Application Server measures, an index KPI has no other numeric values to display in the application.
