You can create default Home page layouts and include panels containing the contents of a file for different application groups.

Prerequisites

You are running the Administrator as the strategy management administrator. If the Administration section is unavailable to you, it means you are not running the Administrator with an administrator user name and password.

The application groups to which you are assigning Home page configurations have access to the Home component. For information, see Application Group Development.

Features

Home page configuration has the following features:

  • You can control which panels appear in the Home component for certain application groups, and also control where the panels are located.

    Note Note

Users can customize their own view by adding and removing the panels you have made available to them, and changing their location. If a user is displaying a panel and then you remove that panel from their configuration, that user still has access to the panel.

    End of the note.
  • You can upload SWF, PDF, JPG, GIF, and PNG files, and make them available to certain application groups from within the External Content panels of their Home component.

You can choose to have the selected application groups see the files automatically in External Content panels in the Home component or you can just make the file available to them so they can add it as an External Content panel when they want.

    Note Note

Although it is possible to use Microsoft Office files such as DOC and XLS files for external content, you may receive unpredictable results. Internet Explorer handles the display of Microsoft Office files based on each user's Windows settings. The only way to ensure proper behavior when a user attempts to display external content from a Microsoft Office file is for the user to edit that particular file type and specify that only the Browse in the same window option is selected for the Open action.

    End of the note.
  • You can remove files from the Home pages of certain application groups. This achieves the same effect as removing the panel from the application group.

  • You can view any files that you uploaded.

  • You can copy an application group's layout to other application groups.

  • Any change you make in the Configure Home Page view takes effect in users' Home components the next time they click Refresh or begin a new session in the application.

Activities

To configure the Home page for certain application groups, click Configure Home Page in the Administration section.

Adding, Removing, and Relocating Panels
  • To add a panel to an application group's Home component, select the application group whose Home page you are configuring and click Customize. Then from the Add Panel drop-down list, select the panels to add.

  • To remove a panel from an application group's Home component, select the application group whose Home page you are configuring and click Customize. Then click the check box of the panel you want to remove.

  • To set the location of an application group's Home page panels, select the application group whose Home page you are configuring and click Customize. Then drag the panels to their new locations.

Copying a Layout from One Application group to Another
  • To copy a layout from one application group to another, select the application group whose layout you want to copy. Click Copy layout to other groups, then select the application group(s) to use that layout, and then click Save.

Adding, Removing, and Updating Files within Panels
  • To upload files and make them available for selection, click Upload and then browse for the file.

  • To add an uploaded file to the External Source panel in an application group's Home component, select the application group, then select the file from the External Content list, and then click Add.

  • To make a file available to an application group and allow them control over adding it as an External Content panel, select the application group, then select the file from the External Content list, and then click Add. Then with the application group still selected, click Customize and select the file from the Add Panel drop-down list.

  • To remove an external file from an application group's Home component, select the application group, then select the file from the Selected External Content list, and click Remove. Or, remove the panel from the application group's configuration.

  • To remove an external file permanently so that it is no longer available in any application groups' Home page configurations, select the file from the External Content list and click Delete.

  • To view an external file, select it in the External Content list and click View.

  • To update an external file, click Upload and upload the file again. Then select the application group to be updated, and re-add the file to the Selected External Content list. The new version of the file overwrites the version that is currently uploaded.

You now have two files with the same name in the External Content list. If the older file is being used by another application group, you'll need to keep both files and use View to identify the difference between them.

If no other application groups are using the initial file, it is recommended to delete it to avoid confusion.

If you want to rename an updated file before you upload it to avoid confusion, remember to remove the older file (panel) from the application group's view after you add the uploaded file.
