You can review milestones and sub-milestones as either a Fishbone Diagram or a Milestones Summary in the Detail View. The color-coded status is based on a comparison of the actual end date and target end date.

What you need to know

Review an initiative's milestones and sub-milestones

Click the initiative

None

Get details about a selected milestone or sub-milestone

Click the milestone or sub-milestone

If you have permission to edit this milestone or sub-milestone because you are the author or owner, the Edit Milestone or Sub-Milestone dialog box appears. You can view the details in this dialog box.

If you do not have permission to edit the selection, an information box appears, where you can view the details about it.

Display the Milestone Summary

Click Milestone Summary

Display milestones in the Fishbone Diagram

Click Fishbone Diagram

The Fishbone Diagram shows you the milestones and sub-milestone details in a diagram that helps you understand relationships. The milestones are displayed by their target end date. The left-most milestone has the target end date furthest away from the initiative's target end date. The right-most milestone has the closest target end date to the initiative's target end date.

Display a milestone's sub-milestones in the Fishbone Diagram

Click the Sub-milestones=<number> link on the milestone node in the Fishbone Diagram

If a milestone has sub-milestones, a Sub-milestones=<number> link will appear under the milestone node. The number identified in the link shows the number of sub-milestones for the milestone.

The left-most sub-milestone has the target end date furthest away from the milestone's target end date. The right-most sub-milestone has the closest target end date to the milestone's target end date.

Collapse the Detail View to expand the Initiatives Summary

Click the dash button

None

Sort the milestones and sub-milestones in the Milestones Summary by date

Click a date column heading

Within a sub-milestone grouping, the sub-milestones are sorted too. If more than one milestone has the same date, then those milestones are sorted by milestone name.

Review the owner

See the Owner column in the Milestones Summary

The owner is the user who is responsible for managing the milestone activities. An owner ensures that the Stakeholders follow through on their tasks as well as updating the initiatives regularly.

Review the team members of the milestone or sub-milestone

Click the team members icon in the Milestones Summary. If you do not see an icon, it means there are no team members.

Team members can easily access the latest status details directly relevant to their role, providing them with directly actionable information.

Review the schedule status

See the colored status indicator next to the milestone or sub-milestone

The schedule status shows whether the milestone or sub-milestone is on schedule. In the Prioritization Matrix, that same schedule status is plotted on the Urgency (X) axis in the quadrant that represents behind schedule (far-left quadrants), on time (middle quadrants), or ahead of schedule (far-right quadrants).

A milestone's schedule status is determined differently based on whether using a rule-based status or overriding the status.

For information about how the schedule status is determined, see Schedule Status Determination.
