Model Connections
A model connection is a named collection of strategy management users associated with an Application Server user, which is associated with an Application Server dimensional model.
Use a model connection to control which strategy management users can access which dimensional models.
Model connections are used in the Administrator in these ways:
Model connections are created.
Model connections are assigned to contexts.
A model connection is composed of the following:
An identifying name.
Application Server users.
Name of the server running Application Server.
If Interactive Publisher is installed on a different server than SAP NetWeaver CE, then it is the IP address for Application Server.
Authentication name of a user on the Application Server system.
Password for the authentication user.
Communications port for the UNIX or Windows server machine running Application Server.
The default is 8325.
A minimum number of instances of Application Server to start up with this model connection.
The default setting is 0, which means that no copies start until the first URL query is submitted.
A maximum number of instances of Application Server to allow for this model connection.
The default setting is 5. You can set up to 255 instances by entering a number in the Max text box. You must specify a maximum number of Application Server
instances that is equal to or lower than the number defined for the Application Server user. For example, if an Application Server user is allowed 5 instances, you must enter a number that is no higher than 5. To find out the maximum number of instances available to an Application Server user, issue the SUPERVISOR
SHOW USERS command in Application Server. To change the number of instances available to an Application Server user, issue the SUPERVISOR CHANGE USER command with the MAXLOGIN keyword. For information about these
commands, see the Application Server online Help.
An Application Server model to use for this model connection.
See the Application Server online Help located in the Help menu of the Application Server Administrator program for information about creating an Application Server dimensional model.
The name of the currently selected Application Server user.
The definitions on the screen represent this user's connection information.
Encrypted password for the currently selected Application Server user.
If the user is Guest, you do not need to specify a password.
Name of the initialization (INI) file for the Application Server.
The default filename created at installation is lsserver.ini.
Name of the service specified in the lsserver.ini file.
The default service name is PILOT.
Selection of users and or system groups.
By default, all users are added to the model connection. The Web authentication users assigned to an Application Server inherit the Application Server user settings and have the same view into the dimensional model.
A context assignment.
Someone with Create/Edit Scorecards permission assigns a model connection to a context using Set Scorecard Defaults in the Scorecard section.
