Procedure

Formatting Rules for Import from CSV

To format the rules for import, you use a template from the rule design. To obtain a template and format the rules:

  1. On the Rule Design page under Rules, choose Import Rules.

    The Import Wizard appears.

  2. Click on the template link in the Template field.

The File Download dialog box appears.

  3. Choose Open.

The import template opens in Microsoft Excel.

  4. Enter the rules information into the appropriate columns.

To update an existing rule, you must provide the External ID of the associated rule in the CSV file. If you do not specify an existing rule's external ID, a new rule is created. If a rule with the specified external ID already exists in the rule design, it is updated with the data specified in the CSV file and all of its existing entries in the rule decision table are overwritten.

  5. Save the document to a local server.

The document is ready for import.

Importing Rules from a CSV File
  1. On the Rule Design page under Rules, choose Import Rules.

    The Import Wizard appears.

  2. For the Upload Import File, navigate to the CSV file you saved locally.

  3. To preview the line items before you import, select File Preview.

  4. Choose Next and then follow the prompts in the wizard to import the file.

When import is complete, you see the rules in the rules table.

    Note Note

If the data for any of the rules for a rule design is incorrect, none of the rules are imported to the rule design and the original data remains the same. In this case, correct any errors and reimport.

    End of the note.
Exporting Rules to a CSV File

If mass updates are required on rules, you can export all the rules to a CSV file, modify them offline, and then reimport the modified rules.

Note Note

The rule design must be in edit mode to export rules.

End of the note.
  1. On the Rule Design page, choose Export Rules.

The File Download dialog box appears.

  2. Choose Save.

  3. Enter a file name and location for the file and then choose Save.

The file is exported to the selected location.
