Context

The My Objects tile in the navigation panel lets you manage the content in the Portal Catalog by defining a selected set of your most frequently-used objects. When you add an object to the My Objects list, you create a shortcut to the source object, giving you direct access to it without requiring subsequent searches. With folders, you can drill down into and access the full hierarchy of content objects contained in them. With all objects, you can perform the same actions as you would using the Portal Catalog context menus.

The My Objects option is available in other areas of the portal where the Portal Catalog is used - such as System Administration. In each instance, the portal objects that are available in both the Portal Catalog and My Objects list are filtered according to the administrative task.

The My Objects list is structured in two layers:

  • Groups : the top node of the My Objects list

All objects in My Objects must reside in a group. Upon creating the first object, a Default group is created automatically for that object. While you can rename the Default group (not recommended), you cannot delete it. You can create any number of additional groups and manage them by renaming, changing their order, and deleting them as necessary.

  • The objects themselves

Any object in the Portal Catalog can be added to the My Objects list. The contents of roles, worksets and pages in the My Objects list are displayed in the Detailed View tile.

Note
  • You cannot have two instances of the same object in a single My Objects group.

  • If the source object of an object in the My Objects list is deleted in the PCD, the link to the My Objects object is, obviously, broken. When you attempt to open the object from the My Objects list, a message is displayed notifying you that the link has been broken.

Procedure

  1. Add the object to the My Objects list by choosing Add to My Objects from the context menu of the object in the Portal Catalog. The object is added automatically to the Default group.
  2. To add a new My Objects group, click Add New Group and in the Add New Group dialog box, define a unique name for the group.
  3. Organize the objects in the list using the following functions, available in the context menu of the objects:
    • Sort the groups, using the Move Up and Move Down options from the context menu of a group.

    • Drag-and-drop objects from one group to another.

    • Use the Cut My Object , Copy My Object and Paste My Object to duplicate and move objects.

    • Delete objects from the My Objects list (but not from the PCD) using Remove from My Objects .

    • Find the source object of a My Objects object in the Portal Catalog tree using Locate in Portal Catalog .

  4. Access the objects just as you would from the Portal Catalog or Detailed View .

The Detailed View is displays objects in a hierarchy like in the Portal Catalog. It provides information for unit objects in the My Objects tree when selected: roles, worksets, pages, and iViews.
