Procedure

Choose Compare Clients to check whether a standard text, style, or form already exists in another client. You can also identify differences in the object attributes and definitions. You can use this function for single or multiple objects.

Note

A comparison covers only the attributes and, if applicable, the formal definition of an object. A comparison does not extend to the text level of an object. A comparison can highlight differences in the author of an object or the formats used in a style or form. But a comparison cannot detect differences in standard texts nor in the texts used in forms.

To compare clients:

  1. Choose Start of the navigation path Tools Next navigation step Word Processing End of the navigation path and then Standard Text, Style or Form, depending on the type of object that you want to compare. Choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Compare Clients End of the navigation path.

This takes you to the selection screen where you specify which objects you want to compare.

  2. Make the following entries:

    • Name

Enter the name of the standard text, style, or form to be checked.

    • Language

      Enter the appropriate language key.

    • Text ID

Enter the text ID (type) of the text(s) you have selected. (This field appears only if you are comparing standard texts.)

    • Source client

Enter the client to be used as the basis for the check. By default, this is client 000.

    • Target client

Enter the client that you want to check against the source client. By default, this is the client in which you are currently active.

  3. Compare the clients by choosing F8 ( Execute).

When the comparison is finished, the system displays a list of results. The source client is in the left-hand column and the target client is in the right-hand column. An empty line means that the object does not exist in the corresponding client.

Click an object in the list to display detailed information. The list highlights the differences between attributes and between the contents of the objects. For example, differences in the character and paragraph styles in two forms of the same name are highlighted.

You can use the Info function to display detailed information about an object in the comparison list, without reference to the comparison object.
