The PCD has a set of configuration properties that refer to various functional areas, such as: PCD trace, lock service, generic layer, ACL service, transport service, and migration.
The PCD configuration properties are categorized as follows:
Properties that can be modified online.
Changes to these properties take effect immediately, without restarting the server.
To modify configuration properties online, use SAP NetWeaver Administrator.
For general information about SAP NetWeaver Administrator, see SAP NetWeaverSAP NetWeaver Administrator .
Properties that can only be modified offline.
Changes to these properties take effect only after restarting the server.
To modify configuration properties offline, use the Config Tool.
Note that you can use the Config Tool to modify all properties (including online-modifiable properties), however the server must be restarted for the changes to take effect. For more information about the Config Tool, see: Modifying Service, Manager, or Application Properties .
In SAP NetWeaver Administrator, you can view a detailed description for every one of the PCD properties, as described in the procedure that follows.
Modifying PCD Properties Online
SAP NetWeaver Administrator displays the properties of the PCD Generic Layer service in a table. In the Modifiable column of the table, a selected checkbox indicates that a property can be modified online.
We recommend modifying PCD properties at the cluster level only, and not for a specific server instance, unless specified otherwise.
To modify a PCD property online:
Start SAP NetWeaver Administrator
Navigate to and then choose Java System Properties .
In the Templates area, choose a template to apply your modifications to all running instances in that template, or choose a specific instance that you want to configure.
Under Details , select the Services tab.
Select the PCD Generic Layer service, by typing pcd in the filter field and pressing Enter .
Choose Show Advanced Properties from the top of the page.
The Extended Details table displays all the PCD configuration properties.
You can modify any property with a selected checkbox in the Modifiable column.
To view a detailed description of any property in the table, select it and click Show Details .
Select the property to modify, and click Modify .
Type the new value in the Enter custom value field, and click Set .
Choose Save .
You can view, but not modify, PCD properties in the portal. In the system administration role, choose , choose the area Portal Content Directory and choose PCD Configuration in the Test and Configuration Tools table. The next screen shows parameter values currently maintained for the PCD.
