Integration of the ILM Store into the Archiving Process

With the integration of the ILM Store into SAP's data retention process, the entire process can take place within an SAP system landscape.

The entire process of SAP's data archiving and data retention up to data storage using SAP ILM Retention Management is looked at as a whole. This means the entire data retention process can be represented as a process integrated in SAP and that it can manage without third party stores.

Schematically, this process is composed of the components shown in the following figure:

• The archiving client mirrors your system with the data to be archived and that you operate with the Information Retention Manager (IRM).

• You use the ArchiveLink connection and SAP CMS to archive your documents.

• You need the IRM's SRS to control all processes having to do with the ILM Store.

• With the ILM Store, you have a certified, SAP-specific store for BC-ILM 3.0.

  Note

  The BC-ILM 3.0 interface is an enhancement of the WebDAV protocol. You use it to store and adjust data. ILM Retention Management defines this interface. The requirements for this interface must be implemented by all store providers that use SAP ILM. The SAP ILM Store also implements this interface and is certified with Certification Suite for AS ABAP. • You can used the Shared Files function to send the shared files that are to be stored.

• You decide where you want to store your data, for example, in the database, in the file system, or both.
