Copying Texts and Translation Data by RFCLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

If you have set up more than one system for translation at your company, your translators may discover that they have to process the same lines in the same objects in their worklists in different systems. In this situation, one way to avoid repeated translation effort for the same texts is to set up worklist evaluations so that translations and corresponding translation data are copied by a Remote Function Call (RFC) connection from another system where the texts and data are already available.

This function is first available as of the releases listed below:

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (as of Support Package 27)

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP1 (as of Support Package 12)

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP2 (as of Support Package 12)

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.3 (as of Support Package 08)

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.3 EHP1 (as of Support Package 03)

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.4

Prerequisites

The function must be available in both the local system and the target system, that is, both systems must be on one of the Release/Support Package levels listed above.

You know how to set up an RFC connection between local and target systems.

You have a user and password for both the local and target systems.

Recommendation

To maximize the benefits of this function for all target languages, call transaction LXE_MASTER in the local system, choose Translation Languages Translation Languages on the Languages Languages tab page, and make sure you have assigned:

  • Extremely High priority to every target language that serves as a source language for other target languages.

  • A priority lower than Extremely High to every other target language in your system.

Procedure
  1. In transaction RFC Destinations (Display/Maintain) (SM59), create an RFC connection from the local system to the target system that you want to copy from. Since the evaluation jobs run in the background, you must maintain a user and password for the target system in the RFC connection. Use the Remote Logon function to check that the RFC connection is working and that you can access the target system directly without a logon screen appearing.

    Caution

Make sure you select the Unicode radio button if the target system is a Unicode system.

  2. In transaction Translation Administration (LXE_MASTER), enter the parameters for your evaluation as required.

  3. In the RFC Copy group box, make the following entries:

    • Select the Activate checkbox to tell the system that you want it to perform the copy task during the evaluation.

    • Use the Exclude Languages option if you want to exclude specific languages from the copy function. Any languages specified here are still included in the evaluation, but the system ignores them when copying texts and translation data from the target system.

    • Enter the name of a valid RFC connection. If the error message RFC Error: Function module "LXE_RFC_CHECK_OBJTYPE" not found appears, it means that the function is not available in the target system.

Note

If you activate automatic distribution and this RFC copy function for the same evaluation, texts and translation data are first copied from the target system to the local system by RFC connection, after which automatic distribution takes place for the remaining new and modified short text lines.

Result

The texts are copied according to the following principles:

Short Texts

  • If a translation line in the local system has the status new, and if the same translation line in the same object has the status translated in the target system, then the text and the matching proposal are copied from the target system to the local system.
Note Note that the matching proposal is only copied from the target system to the local system if the copied text does not agree with a proposal that already exists in the local system.

At the end of the evaluation, the translation line in the local system has the status translated.

  • If a translation line in the local system has the status new, and if the same translation line in the same object has the status modified in the target system, then the text is copied from the target system to the local system.

At the end of the evaluation, the translation line in the local system has the status:

    • Modified (if the proposal pool in the local system does not contain a matching proposal for the copied text) or

    • Translated (if the proposal pool in the local system already contains a matching proposal for the copied text).

  • If a translation line in the local system has the status Modified, and if the same translation line in the same object has the status Translated in the target system, then the text and the matching proposal are copied from the target system to the local system.
Note Note that the matching proposal is only copied from the target system to the local system if the copied text does not agree with a proposal that already exists in the local system.

At the end of the evaluation, the translation line in the local system has the status Translated.

SE61 Texts

  • If a long text object in the local system has the status new or modified, then the translation is copied from the target system to the local system if the following prerequisites are met:

    • The source text in the local system is identical to the source text in the target system.

    • A translation exists in the target system.

    • The status of the long text object in the target system is translated.

At the end of the evaluation, the long text object in the local system has the status translated.

    Note

If both the local system and target system are running on SAP NetWeaver release 7.30 or higher, any fingerprint data that is available is also copied to the local system. If no fingerprints are available, new fingerprints are created in the local system for each combination of source and target text.
