Reviewing Search ResultsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

When you start a search in the message monitor, the system checks which messages match the search conditions and displays them in a table. You can view the message details, open the message, cancel it, or resend it.

Prerequisites
  • You have started the message monitor and have performed a search for messages. For more information, see Monitoring Messages and Advanced Message Search .

  • The user account you use should be assigned to one of the Process Integration monitoring roles. For more information about which roles allow you to view and modify messages, see Monitoring Roles .

Procedure

Displaying Search Results

You can choose which information should be displayed in the results table in the following way:

  • Use the table settings dialog to choose which columns should be displayed in the table and which columns should be sorted.

  • Activate the filter row and enter a filter to display only the results in which you are interested.

  • The system can display the information in the table either with a fixed column width, or with all values in all columns fully displayed. You can switch between these views using the Change Layout button.

Consider the following about the way the message monitor displays synchronous messages:

  • When you perform a simple search and only specify a time period in the search criteria, the system displays the synchronous messages available for this time period along with the synchronous messages.

  • In case you perform more advanced search by specifying, for example, the message status or identifier in the search criteria, the system might display some of the synchronous messages in the search results, or none at all. The reason for this behavior is that during message processing (before archiving) logged message versions may or may not have a status. If a message has a status, it is the status of the currently active message. If it has no status, it is shown in the search results as Log version . Correspondingly, when you perform search by status some of the messages might not be displayed in the results.

Displaying Results for User-Defined Search

When you perform user-defined search, the system shows a set of message details in the results table that is different from the default one. In addition to a few standard message details, the system also shows columns with information for all user-defined search criteria you specified for the current search; there is a separate column for each criterion you specified.

Consider that when the payload of a message contains more than one occurrence of a search criterion the system finds all its values. Then it displays all the values - the one that you have specified for the current search as well as the rest - in the corresponding table cell, separated with the vertical bar (|) character. You can also see these values by selecting a message and choosing the User-Defined Attributes tab in the Message Details screen area.

You can choose which information should be displayed in the results table using the methods described in the previous section.

Displaying Acknowledgement Information

In business-to-business (B2B) communication, messages passing through a PI system can carry information about technical and functional acknowledgements exchanged between the communicating parties. Using the message monitor, you can view information about such acknowledgements in the following ways:

  • The purpose of a technical acknowledgment is to inform the sender of a business message that his message has been received and successfully parsed.

With a technical acknowledgment, the receiver acknowledges that he understands the message, that it is syntactically correct, and that he is going to process it.

When an XI message is part of B2B communication and the PI system has sent or received technical acknowledgements for this message, the information about the status of these acknowledgements is in the Technical Acknowledgement column of the Messages List table.

  • The purpose of a functional acknowledgment is to inform the sender of a business message about successful processing of a message, or about errors that have occurred during the processing.

When an XI message is part of B2B communication and contains functional acknowledgement, the information about the status of this acknowledgement is in the Functional Acknowledgement column of the Messages List table.

You can see additional details about the acknowledgements by selecting a message and choosing the B2B Acknowledgements tab in the Message Details screen area.

Viewing Message Details

Select a message in the Messages List table to display detailed information about it. The Message Details screen area provides the following data:

  • Choose the Message Details tab to display basic information about the message such as its ID, status, and so on.

In case you are running the message monitor on an Advanced Adapter Engine Extended (AEX) system, you can also see the integration flow ID.

  • Choose the Message Content tab if you want to display the message in XML format. You can choose which part of the message you want to see - the SOAP header, SOAP body, or the payload - in the Message Tree screen area. Choose View Message Content if you want to download the whole message as a file.

  • When the User-Defined Attributes tab is present, you can see the payload elements corresponding to the search criteria that were defined for the user-defined message search. This tab is present only when you are allowed to view the message payload. For more information, see Configuring User-Defined Message Search .

  • Choose the Message Log tab to see a list of events that happened during the processing of the selected message.

You can configure the system to persist the information displayed in this log or to expire it using the messaging.auditLog.memoryCache property of the XPI Service Messaging System. For more information, see the “Properties Related to the Messaging System” topic in the configuration documentation for Process Integration.

  • When the B2B Acknowledgements tab is present, you can see the details of all technical and functional acknowledgements related to the selected message.

Here you can obtain information about the acknowledgements that were received and sent: timestamp, type and status, the relevant CorrelationID, and other details. Depending on the number and type of acknowledgements displayed, the monitor can group them by CorrelationID, timestamp, and status. When an acknowledgement has a relationship with another XI message, you can view the ID of this message and navigate to see message's details.

  • On an Advanced Adapter Engine Extended (AEX) system, when you select a message that is related to a process in SAP Business Process Management (BPM) you can choose the Related Objects tab.

Here you can use the link to the business logs, where you can see details for the relevant BPM process and business events. For more information, see “Monitoring the Business Lifecycle Logs” in the documentation of BPM.

  • Choose the Further Links tab if you want to navigate to relevant monitoring tools, for example the sequence monitor. Using these monitoring tools you can obtain additional information about the selected message.

Note that the availability of this tab and the number of links it provides depends on the characteristics of the selected message.

Managing Messages

You can use the controls at the top of the found messages table to perform any of the following activities:

  • Cancel or resend a selected message. Note that you can do this only for persisted messages in the Database tab.

  • Open the message in the message editor to display the versions of the message that are available.

In the version view you can end, edit, or resend individual versions. You can display the details (attributes with their values) of a message version.

For synchronous messages, you can use the message editor to see all locations of the message. Note that the editor shows such messages in read-only mode.

For more information, see Editing Messages .

  • Export the search results to a file.
