Saving Long Texts as a Raw or Active VersionLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The long text editor makes a distinction between saving a raw and active version.

  • If you save a raw version of your translation, the translation status of the long text object does not change to translated.

  • Translated status is not set until you save your translation as an active version, at which point the system generates a fingerprint for your translation that matches the fingerprint of the source text. Your long text translation can then be transported. It can also be used as a source text for translation into other languages.

Prerequisites

You must keep saving the translation of your long text object as a raw version until the following criteria have been satisfied:

  • You have translated the entire long text.

  • You have checked that your translation no longer contains any text in the source language.

  • You have checked any technical links contained in the object, and ensured that they function correctly.

Features

If you save a long text translation as a raw version, the translation status of the object does not change. The raw version of your translation is stored within the translation environment. It is not written to the text repository from which the source text originates.

After you have completed the translation of your long text object in accordance with the criteria listed above, choose Save Active to save the long text translation as an active version. The long text object then has the translation status translated. If a raw version exists, it is deleted when you save an active version. Your translation is converted back from XML to the format of the source text, and written to the text repository from which the source text originates. You can call up an actively saved object again, change the translation, and save a new active version. It is not possible to reset translated status, which means it is not possible to change an actively saved translation back to a raw version.
