Defining Translation Graphs

Prerequisites

You have defined the target languages in your translation system. For more information, see Defining Target Languages.
You are defined as a coordinator for all languages **** in transaction Translation Administration (LXE_MASTER).
If you want to change an existing graph, your translator profile must include the authorization object GRAP with value 01. To create a new graph, you need the authorization object GRAP with value 02.

Procedure

Call transaction LXE_MASTER.
On the Languages tab page, choose Graphs.
The Select Graph dialog box appears.
Double-click Create New Graph.
The Graphs dialog box appears.
Enter a name for the new translation graph in the field at the top of the dialog box.
To ensure that you and your colleagues can easily recognize the graph, enter a meaningful name such as the title of the project for which the translation graph is intended.
At the bottom of the dialog box, choose Create New Entries (Original and Target Language).
The Original Language dialog box appears
Double-click the original language or languages of the objects that you want to translate (such as deDE for German and enUS for English), and choose Execute.
It is vital that you select the correct language keys. For more information, see 1295556 .
A dialog box appears that lists all the target languages defined in the system.
Double-click the required target languages and choose Execute.
You return to the Graphs dialog box, where the original language and target language columns are now filled with the language keys that you selected.
Select the target languages that you want to translate from the same source language, and choose Source Language.
The Language Selection dialog box appears.
Double-click the required source language.
It is vital that you select the correct language key. For more information, see 1295556 .
You return to the Graphs dialog box, where the source language column now contains the language key for the target languages that you selected in step 8.
Repeat steps 8 and 9 if you want to specify a different source language for other target languages in the graph.
The Status column for the translation directions (that is, combinations of original, source, and target languages) that you have just defined contains activation status A (active). If you want to change the status, select the translation directions you want to change and choose Status.
The Activation Status dialog box appears.

To define the translation direction without releasing it, choose status I (inactive). If you want to activate automatic distribution for this translation direction, choose status D (active with distribution).

The activation status in the Graphs dialog box is changed accordingly.

Example

You develop in English only so all of your objects have original language English. You need your development to be 100% available in German and Japanese. You know that the quality of the English to German Proposal Pool is good, so you want to activate Automatic Distribution for this combination of source and target language. However, the quality of the English to Japanese proposal pool is poor, so you do not want to activate automatic distribution for this combination of source and target language. Furthermore, you are fairly certain that your development will need to be translated into Italian in the near future. However, management has yet to make a final decision about this. You therefore decide to include target language Italian in your translation graph in anticipation of a future decision in favor of translation into this language.

You therefore define your translation graph as follows:

When you run an evaluation, this graph ensures the following:

Objects in collections that are assigned to this graph are included in the worklist and statistics for source language English target language German. Automatic distribution takes place.
Objects in collections that are assigned to this graph are included in the worklist and statistics for source language English target language Japanese. Automatic distribution does not take place.
Objects in collections that are assigned to this graph are not included in the worklist and statistics for source language English target language Italian.

If management decides in favor of translation into this language, simply change the status from I to A or D and run an evaluation to add target language Italian to the worklist.

Choose Check Entries to perform a plausibility check for your entries (to see whether you have entered circular definitions, for instance).
Choose Save.

Note If you want to create a graph on the basis of an existing graph, perform steps 1 to 4 above and then choose Copy Values from Another Graph. All existing graphs are listed in the Select Graph dialog box. Select the graph that you require, which takes you back to the new graph you are creating. The original languages, source languages, target languages, and statuses defined for the existing graph are copied to the graph you are creating.

Note If you want to change an existing graph, perform steps 1 and 2 above, and select the graph you want to change.

Results

The required translation directions are now defined in the translation graph. After you have assigned collections to this graph, you can run an evaluation. The graph ensures that the objects belonging to the collections assigned to this graph arrive in the worklists and statistics for the target languages defined in this graph, and are translated from the source language you defined for each target language.
