This guide describes the aspects of the Universal Worklist component that are relevant to security.
SAP recommends that you use this general information to create a handbook for daily use that corresponds to your company-specific requirements for production operations.
As a component of SAPNetWeaver, Universal Worklist is based on the Portal Platform. The J2EE engine of the SAP Web Application Server forms the technical basis. For creating and assigning users and roles you use the SAP User Management. The table below contains links to the security guides for these components.

● Technical consultants
● System administrators
This security guide applies for the entire software life-cycle. In contrast, the installation guide, configuration guide, technical operations manual, and the upgrade guide are each relevant for one phase of the software life-cycle.
● All UWL related back-end systems require the SAP_BC_UWL_SERVICE role.
● When logging on as an administrator in the portal, the administrator user must have the roles system_admin_role or super_admin_role assigned.
Normally, if the corresponding back-end system user already has the correct authorization to work on the Business Workflow directly, no additional setup is required when working in UWL. However, if there are any backend function module authorization issues, see SAP note 938717.
