This section describes how to use ABAP Dictionary search helps, which can be integrated in Web Dynpro ABAP. The figure below shows a sample search help, and is described below.

Elementary Search Help

An elementary search help consists of a personal value list and a standard results list, whereby values can be copied from the standard list into the personal list and values can be selected for further processing.

General Functions:

  • You can select a value from the results list by clicking on it.

  • You can sort the results list by each column in ascending or descending order.

  • You can move the columns in the results list with drag and drop (on the column headers).

  • Use the relevant link to switch from the personal results list to the standard results list.

  • Use the toggle button to hide or show search criteria.

  • Use the Settings link to configure the value help popup to your personal requirements.

  • You can use search criteria to restrict your selection further.

Personalized Values List

When you call input help on an input field, the personal value list is displayed in a dropdown list. From this list you can quickly and easily select a value.

If you choose Further Values..., a popup with the results list appears.

If you choose Organize Personal Value List, a popup appears where you can add or remove values.

In certain cases, no personal value list is available. In this case the link for accessing the personal value list is greyed out.

Copying Values into the Personal Value List

To add values to a personal value list, choose Add to Personal Value List from the context menu.

To add multiple values to the personal value list, choose Maintain Personal Value List from the context menu.

Settings

You can define user-specific settings for the current input help by choosing the link, Settings.

Alternatively, you can call the settings dialog from the context menu (Further Value Help Settings).

Settings for All Input Helps

You can make user-specific settings for all value helps:

  • Define whether the personal value list or the standard results list is displayed when a value help is is opened.

  • Define a maximum number of hits in the results list.

    Note that the upper limit is set by the system administrator for system performance reasons.

Save your entries by choosing OK. To cancel your entries, choose Reset.

Settings for the Current Input Help

You can define settings for the current value help:

  • Override the global setting specifying whether the personal value list or the standard results list is displayed.

  • Override the maximum number of hits in the results list.

  • Specify whether the search criteria of the standard results list is hidden or displayed when the value help popup is opened.

Save your entries by choosing OK. To cancel your input choose Reset.

Collective Search Help

The user can choose one of several search paths with a collective search help. You can call the individual elementary search helps which make up the collective search helps by using the dropdown list box for Further Search Helps in the lower area of the dialog window. Appearance, functions, and operation are elementary search helps.
