Use

By default, the system selects a suitable search method automatically. You can make a setting so that the user is able to choose the search method manually.

Search Methods

The search gives different results depending on the search method used. The system supports the following search methods:

·        Linguistic

Language variants of the search term are taken into consideration with this search method. For example if you enter mice, the system also looks for mouse.

·        Fuzzy

This search method is error-tolerant and also includes similar search terms. For example if you enter president, the system also finds documents that contain presidant.

·        Exact

This search method only finds incidences of the exact search term. You can also use placeholders with this search method (?, *).

The selected search method is valid for the content of the text input field in which users specify search terms. If users create properties in the search option, the search method Exact is always valid for these properties.

 

Automatic Selection of Search Methods

By default, the system selects a suitable search method automatically.

·        If you use placeholders (?,*) in the search field, the system carries out an exact search.

·        If you do not use placeholders in the search field, the system carries out a linguistic search.

 

Cascading Search

If the exact or linguistic search finds no hits, the system automatically starts a fuzzy search. If this finds documents, the system informs you of this by displaying a message on the screen that tells you that a fuzzy search has taken place.

 

Activities

The table below describes possible settings for the search method.

Property	Description
Activate Search Method Selection	If you switch this option on, users can select the search method manually. The search option dialog box has additional fields for the selection of the search method. The selection of the search method does not take place automatically if this is the case. By default, the linguistic search is active. If you have switched on this option and want to use placeholders, remember that you have to select the search method Exact in the search options dialog box.
Activate cascading search	If you switch this option off, the system does not start a fuzzy search if an exact or linguistic search returns no hits.
