The SAP system contains various tools for displaying detailed information on application servers, user sessions, and work processes.
If you want to work with these tools, navigate to
on the initial SAP screen or go to transaction S002. The initial screen for system administration appears. The tools are available under Administration and Monitors. There are also test programs that you can use at operating system level to monitor the message server or the gateway.
This documentation describes the following topics:
Administration Task (Topic) |
Purpose |
---|---|
You run the consistency check directly after the installation. This ascertains possible inconsistences before the system is placed into productive operation. |
You can see all the application server instances of the SAP system and monitor and change their states. |
The message server is the central location where information about the application servers is kept and where messages are exchanged between servers. |
You can see the activity of work processes belonging to an instance, assess the utilization of work process, and manage the work processes. |
You can see which users are logged on the instance and which resources are being used. You can manage user sessions here. |
To track errors, you can configure and evaluate traces at various levels. |
The workload monitor (transaction ST03) is for analyzing statistical data on the ABA kernel to determine the cause of possible performance problems. |
You can get status information about this buffer and can configure it in line with your requirements. |
You can send all users that are logged on to the SAP system important notifications in the form of short messages. |
ABAP Dump Analysis (in the ABAP documentation) |
You can display summaries of short dumps created when an ABAP program terminates abnormally. |
With the gateway monitor, you can monitor and manage existing RFC connections. |
Here you can check the utilization of work processes by parallel RFCs, and change the configuration if there is a resource bottleneck. |
All warnings and errors that occur in the system are recorded in the system log. |
If your system processes HTTP requests using the ICM (for example, Web Dynpro ABAP applications), you can record these requests. |
The database monitor checks important performance indicators in the database system, such as the database size, quality of the database buffer, and the database indexes. |
