Procedure

Which systems in your development landscape should you choose as ATC master systems? The answer depends on the type of development landscape you have.

Two types of ABAP development landscapes are prevalent:

  • : In typical Development and Project Landscape, one or more development systems transport code and other ABAP repository objects to a central test or quality system. In SAP terminology, such a system is a consolidation system.

In such a landscape, choose the quality or test system to be the ATC master system. If you have several such landscapes, then set up central quality checking in the test or quality system of each development landscape.

  • In typical correction landscapes, one or more correction systems (development systems) transport code into a central test or quality system. This system in turn delivers code to the production environment.

In such a landscape, choose the quality or test system to be the ATC master system. Again, if you have more than one such landscape, then set up the ATC in each one.

Result: You have identified each system on which you need to run central quality checks with the ATC in order check the quality of all of your own ABAP development projects, These are the ATC master systems in your development environment.

The development and correction systems that deliver new and modified code to the central systems are called, in ATC parlance, satellite development systems. The development systems are those in which you have original ABAP objects (packages, namespaces).

If your development environment is complex, then the ATC allows a high degree of flexibility for setting up central monitoring. For example, if you have more than one layer of consolidation systems, then you can split up quality checking and exemption management.
