Procedure documentation Filtering and Viewing Logs and Traces in Archives View  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can view archives for both list and text formatted logs and traces. By default, logs are written to five files, each file with a maximum size of 10 MB. When the fifth file is completed, the set of five files is backed up into a ZIP file. Then, the new logs start overwriting the old log files. The default directory where archives of logs are stored for the dispatcher and the server processes is <Drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC<Instance number>\j2ee\cluster\<Dispatcher or server>\log\archive.

Caution

When you open archives of logs and traces, the log and trace files of each archive are extracted to a subdirectory of the operating system’s temporary directory. After you leave the Archives view, the log and trace files are not deleted from the temporary directory. The next time you want to view the same archives, the filtering of the archives will be faster.

Note

Bear in mind that some of the steps in the procedure are optional. You can set filter criteria only in the Archive Browser frame by selecting the particular log and trace files that have archives you want to display. If you set additional filter criteria in the Filter by Data Source and Filter by Content frames, the filtering of the archives will be faster.
