Change Analysis
The Change Analysis area of Root Cause Analysis gives an overview of the changes that have been applied to the managed systems.
The change analysis functionality for Root Cause Analysis helps you to keep track of the changes in your solution landscape. Your development system might behave differently than your production system. Or, J2EE instances of your productive system behave differently and you need to find out the reason. You therefore take regular snapshots of the configuration settings. With this information, the change analysis functionality enables you to identify any changes and compare different configuration settings.
To perform a Root Cause Analysis, start the SAP Solution Manager work center.
Log on to your SAP solution system. Enter the user name and password.
Start the transaction SOLMAN_WORKCENTER.
Choose the tab Root Cause Analysis. The Solution Manager diagnostics panel is displayed.
To start a change analysis, go to the area Root Cause Analysis
In the navigation area, choose End to End Analysis.
In the Detailed Selection list, select one or more systems for which you want to conduct the analysis.
In the header area of the Detailed Selection list, click the pushbutton Change Analysis to launch the change analysis application.
The system automatically creates an Overview tab and an additional tab for each product instance of the selected systems. The tab descriptions contain the system ID and the product instance.
On the Overview tab, choose Summary to determine which product instance had the most changes and which the most recent changes. A graphic is generated as a chart or table.
The default time frame is This week. To change the time frame, use the pull-down menu in the field Timeframe. You can select any time frame using the option Custom selection.
Based on the selected time frame, the data is read from SAP NetWeaver BI.
To review changes made over the past two years, choose History of Changes for the last 2 years. This report reads the data of the current quarter and the 8 previous quarters.
To analyze the changes on a monthly basis, select the table view Table History of Changes.
To view the changes for each change group and change type, display the Last Change Date table. This table lists the date of the most recent change for each change group and type. To display the change type, expand the hierarchy node. The date is displayed in the format dd.mm.yyyy.
To display a list of parameters that were changed on a certain day, right-click the change and jump to the configuration details. If the change was recorded in a transport request, you can find the details in the managed system.
Note
Collection of the change data starts with the date when the ConfigStores are filled for the first time. Only changes of a product instance configuration made after this date can be displayed in the change analysis. Thus it is not possible to report changes before the Root Cause Analysis function was setup.
The ConfigStores are shown in the Configuration and File Reporting. The change analysis can not report any changes if these are not available.
Caution
As changes can only be determined once the E2E Change Analysis has been set up, the overview report History of Changes for the last two years can only show the changes since setup time.
You have displayed data that can be used for further analysis.
