Process documentationConfiguring the Vendor's SAP APO System Locate this document in the navigation structure

To implement a standard or a consigned vendor-managed inventory process, the vendor has to configure its SAP ERP and SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) systems. You use this process to make the necessary settings in SAP APO.

Process

  1. You check the customer location master data transferred from the vendor's SAP ERP system and assign the VMI customer to the VMI location in the location master.

  2. The SAP APO system automatically creates location products for the customer materials transferred from the vendor's SAP ERP system.

  3. You check the material master transferred from the vendor's SAP ERP system at the plant location.

  4. You create transportation lanes between the supply and customer locations and assign a means of transportation with a transportation calendar to the lanes.

  5. You define inbound and outbound quota arrangements in the quota arrangement master data.

  6. You create planning structures (a planning area and a planning book) in Demand Planning, define key figures and save the sales and forecast data of the VMI customer.

  7. If necessary, you create a mass processing job for the release of data from Demand Planning to Supply Network Planning.

  8. You define the Transport Load Builder (TLB) profile.

  9. To enable the transfer of TLB shipments to SAP ERP, you include the sales order publishing type for the supplying plant or distribution center in the distribution definition.

  10. To enable data transfer from the vendor's SAP APO system to the customer's SAP ERP system, you proceed as follows:

    1. You create a system name for the customer's SAP ERP system in Customizing.

    2. You define the partner profiles.

    3. You create the inbound parameters for the customer's logical system.

  11. You can also execute the following optional steps:

    • Activate extended forecast consumption

    • Set up VMI purchase order number assignment (only for a standard VMI process)

    • Make settings for the reduction of stock in transit

    • Set up XML processing
