Tasks on Demand
You execute the following tasks to adjust current processes and functions to reflect changes in your data warehouse, to improve performance, and to analyze errors:
Task |
Further Information |
Adjust processes and objects |
|
Adjust process chains |
You can adjust processes or process chains to reflect changes in your data warehouse. More information:
|
Configure authorizations |
You can assign users the authorizations they require for their tasks. More information:
|
Remodel an InfoCube |
You can modify the structure of an InfoCube into which data has already been loaded, without losing any data. More information:
|
Modify aggregates to reflect changes to hierarchies and attributes |
If the hierarchies and attributes of characteristics that belong to an InfoCube have been changed, you have to make structural changes to the aggregates to modify the data accordingly. In this task, you can perform the attribute change run ad hoc. More information:
|
Change system parameters |
In this task, you can change BI APAP system parameters, such as the debugging user. You call the function in the Administration functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB), under Current Settings → System Parameters. |
Change parameters for data transfer |
In this task, you can change data transfer parameters for non-SAP source system and the settings for partition sizes of PSA tables. You call the function in the Administration functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB), under Current Settings → BI System Data Transfer. |
Switch BI accelerator index to inactive if the BI accelerator is no longer available |
BI queries that use an InfoCube as the data provider terminate if a BI accelerator index has been created for the InfoCube but the BI accelerator is no longer available. If this occurs, call the index maintenance for the BI accelerator. Select the relevant BI accelerator index and choose Switch On/Off to set it to inactive. More information: Using the BIA Index Maintenance Wizard. |
Create connection to near-line storage |
If you decide to use near-line storage as the data archiving method in your operational system, you can set up the connection to your near-line storage here. Status information indicates whether the connection is working and can be used. You call the function in the Administration functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB), under Current Settings → Near-Line Storage Connections. More information:
|
Make performance-related adjustments |
|
Adjust performance settings for InfoProviders |
In this task, you can adjust the settings you made when you defined the InfoProvider in InfoProvider properties maintenance. You call the function in the Administration functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB), under Current Settings → InfoProvider. |
Adjust performance settings for DataStore objects |
In this task, you can adjust the settings you made in the Implementation Guide, under SAP NetWeaver → Business Intelligence → Performance Settings. This setting allows you to improve the performance of the data processing in the DataStore object. You call the function in the Administration functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB), under Current Settings → DataStore Objects. |
Adjust performance settings for aggregates |
In this task, you can change the parameters for the change run and for building aggregates that you set in the Implementation Guide, under NetWeaver → Business Intelligence → Performance Settings. This setting allows you to improve performance when filling aggregates and during the change run. You call the function by choosing Current Settings → Aggregate Parameters under Administration in the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB). |
Adjust parameters for OLAP cache |
In this task, you can adjust the settings you made in the Implementation Guide, under SAP NetWeaver → Business Intelligence → Performance Settings. You call the function by choosing Current Settings → OLAP Cache under Administration in the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB). More information:
|
Repartition or recluster InfoCube |
You can repartition or recluster an InfoCube into which data has already been loaded, to improve the performance of reporting, for example. More information:
|
Recluster DataStore objects |
You can recluster a DataStore object into which data has already been loaded, to improve the performance of database access, for example. More information:
|
Archive request administration data |
You can archive old request administration data from tables RS*DONE and RSMON* that is no longer needed, to improve the performance of actions for which requests are called. More information:
|
Adjust settings for parallel processing of BI processes |
In this task, you can change the setting for the parallel processing of a process. You call the function in the Administration functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench (DWB), under Current Settings → Batch Manager. More information:
|
Record traces for query execution and navigation or actions in the Planning Modeler |
In this task, you can improve the read performance of queries with regard to selected query executions and query navigation by scheduling traces, which are used to fill the OLAP cache. More information:
|
Check BI accelerator box performance, configuration and connection to the BI system |
In cases of reduced or poor performance, you can use test scripts and monitors to test the performance and connection speed of the BI accelerator box to the BI system. You must check the settings in the configuration file for the BI accelerator. For more information, see SAP Note 902533: TREX 7.0: How-To Guide Connecting/Operating BI Accelerator Box |
Error Analysis |
|
Record traces for query execution and navigation or actions in the Planning Modeler |
In this task, you can use traces to save and analyze errors. More information:
|
Perform consistency checks for data and metadata in the BI system |
More information:
|
Test, execute, and manage queries and query views |
