Use

The fastest way to view both list and text formatted logs and traces is to view them in the Expert predefined view, where you can specify the name and type of the particular logs and traces you want to view.

Note

Bear in mind that some of the steps in the procedure are optional. You can set filter criteria only in the Log Browser frame by selecting the particular log and trace files you want to display. You can set additional filter criteria in the Filter by Data Source and Filter by Content frames to narrow the log and trace filter results.

Procedure

...

       1.      From the Get dropdown box, select Predefined View and then, from the adjacent dropdown box, select Expert.

In the Display Log File dropdown box, a list of all list and text formatted logs and traces on all selected systems appears. In the From dropdown box, a list of data source locations on which you can view the logs and traces appears.

Note

In addition, one of the following tables appears:

      A table with all list formatted log and trace records on the selected data source location. The newest record is displayed at the top.

      A table with the message text of text formatted logs and traces. The message text of the oldest record is displayed at the top.

       2.      To display a table on a separate screen with the locations and names of the log files from which the log records are taken, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Show all Log Files included in this record set.

       3.      Choose Open Filter.

Applying Filters by Data Source

...

       1.      To display all list and text formatted logs and traces on a data source location, in the Filter by Data Source frame, select <Select Data Source>, and then from the dropdown box below select Get all logs from.

       2.      Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

       3.      Select a data source location.

Note

You can make a filter inactive and keep it for future use by deselecting the Active indicator. You can delete a filter by selecting the Active indicator and choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Delete this filter.

       4.      To exclude all list and text formatted logs and traces on a data source location, in the Filter by Data Source frame, select <Select Data Source>, and then from the dropdown box below select Exclude all logs from.

       5.      Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

       6.      Select a data source location.

       7.      Choose Apply Data Sources.

Selecting Log Files and Log Types

...

       1.      In the Log Browser frame, select <Select Log> and then from the dropdown box below, select Log file named.

       2.      From the adjacent dropdown box, select as or other than.

       3.      In the adjacent field, you can enter a string or in the next field, you can choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

       4.      Select a log or trace file you want to display.

       5.      In the Log Browser frame, select <Select Log> and then from the dropdown box below, select Log type.

       6.      From the adjacent dropdown box, select equals or does not equal.

       7.      In the adjacent field, you can enter a string or in the next field, you can choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

       8.      Select a log or trace file type you want to display.

       9.      To merge list formatted logs and traces, select the Merge Logs If Possible indicator.

   10.      Choose Apply Logs.

Applying Filters by Content

...

       1.      In the Filter by Content frame, select <Select Filter>, and then from the dropdown box below select a filter by content.

       2.      Specify filter criteria. For more information about the content you can filter, see List of Columns for Logs and Traces.

       3.      Choose Apply Filters.

     If you have selected to display only one text formatted log or trace, a table with all message texts from the logs or traces that meet the filter criteria appears.

     If you have selected to display more text formatted logs and traces, separate tables with all message texts from the different logs and traces that meet the filter criteria appear.

     If you have selected to merge the log and trace files, you get a table with all log and trace files on all data source locations that meet the filter criteria.

     If you have not selected to merge the log and trace files, you get separate tables for the different log and trace files that meet the filter criteria.

       4.      From the Display Log File dropdown box, select a log or trace file name, and then from the From dropdown box select a data source location.

Opening Record Details and Full Record Information

...

       1.      Select a list formatted log or trace record you want to view and choose Open Record Details.

Record details including the columns that are selected during column customization appear.

       2.      To view the full record information, choose Open Full Record Information.

Record details including all columns that are available for column customization appear.
