Web Dynpro Text Browser
Many user-interface
elements contain texts of the most different types. All texts entered by the
user that are assigned to a UI element through the properties table are stored
and managed in the
Online Text
Repository (OTR). They can also be translated there, for example. More
information: Internationalization
and Translation. The ABAP Workbench provides a separate authoring
environment, called the Web Dynpro Text Browser. This enables you to
subsequently edit individual texts, independently of the development of the
views. This authoring environment is a separate browser that you can include
in your browser list in the initial screen of the ABAP Workbench. To do this,
in SE80 choose Utilities →
Settings… and
select the option Web Dynpro Text Browser under the header Browser Selection on the Workbench General tab page. Confirm your entries.
The Web Dynpro Text
Browser is displayed in your browser selection above the object list in the
left-hand corner of your Workbench window.
When you select this browser, the list of objects ready for change will automatically be limited to Web Dynpro views that contain changeable texts.
All the text elements of a view that were created when the application was developed and then stored in the OTR or that were inserted from the OTR into the text field of a UI element are now available for change in table form. To edit them, select the corresponding text field either in this table or in the preview window above it.
Note the following:
● Only texts from the OTR in the text browser can be changed. Texts that are entered in a UI element using the ABAP Dictionary cannot be edited here.
● All the OTR texts of a Web Dynpro application can be edited only in the original logon language. If a particular text was created in the logon language German, it can only be changed if the user logs on to the system in the German language. If you are logged on to the system in a language other than the original language and you wish to edit the texts, the views will not be displayed for change.
● Only text elements from active views can be changed; inactive views are not displayed in the Web Dynpro Text Browser.
The release flag is automatically set to Red for texts created or changed in the development environment. This indicates that this text has so far not been edited here in Web Dynpro. Only after you have edited the text, can you set the flag to Green.
