Purpose

In this IT process, you can find basic information about configuring mobile applications. For more detailed information about application-specific configuration, see the relevant application guides.

You have to perform the configuration steps described here for each mobile application:

Using the Process

This IT process is part of the following IT scenario:

IT Scenario

IT Scenario Variant

Mobilizing Business Processes

Enabling Mobile Applications for Occasional Connection

Prerequisites

You have completed the Setting Up Mobile Landscape process.

Process Flow

The following IT process is incorporated in the MI usage type:

...

       1.      Install and configure mobile application settings

To make an existing back-end application mobile, certain enhancements and settings must be made (for example, the latest plug-ins must be imported for SAP Mobile Asset Management (MAM) and MAM-specific Customizing must be completed).

       2.      Implement application settings (SyncBOs, filter values, etc.)

To enable mobile devices to process data from a back-end system, you must create, for example, RFC destinations to the back end, make settings for Generic Synchronization, and implement SyncBO definitions.

       3.      Upload mobile component archives

To be able to install mobile applications on the mobile devices, you must make sure they are available on the MI server.

       4.      Initialize replica database and schedule periodic updates

The replication database is initially filled with data and future updates are scheduled.

       5.      System retrieves back-end data

Application data from the back-end system is replicated on the MI server. The mobile devices can, therefore, receive up-to-date application data when synchronized in the future.

Result

You have configured the mobile applications. You now need to perform the IT process Executing Software Deployment and Administration.
