Process documentation Enabling Runtime and Synchronization  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

The user can follow this IT process to perform his or her daily tasks on the mobile device and to exchange data with the back end by means of synchronization.

Synchronization ensures a safe and compressed transfer of data between the mobile device and the back end. Modified data is transferred from the mobile device to the back end and vice versa, so that both the mobile device and the back end have the most up-to-date data.

Using the Process

This IT process is part of the following IT scenario:

IT Scenario

IT Scenario Variant

Mobilizing Business Processes

Enabling Mobile Applications for Occasional Connection

Prerequisites

You have completed the IT process Executing Software Deployment and Administration.

Process Flow

...

       1.      End user triggers synchronization to get latest data

The synchronization takes place to transfer new and changed data from the client to the back end and vice versa.

As an alternative to the online synchronization, the user can use various data carriers to transfer the data, such as memory sticks, disks, and DVDs. In this case the system only synchronizes application data. The system cannot install any new applications with data carrier synchronization.

       2.      System retrieves data from replication database

Data is transferred from the back end to the client using the replication database. The replication database ensures that the data is transferred once only, securely, and in the right order.

       3.      End user accesses application and changes data offline

The user calls the required mobile application on his or her mobile device and completes the task concerned without a connection to the back end.

       4.      End user triggers synchronization

       5.      System updates replication database

The data changed by the user is sent to the replication database from the client and updated there.

       6.      System updates back-end data and retrieves update

The replication database makes sure that the data is transferred to the back-end once only, securely, and in the correct order, and that it is updated there. In doing so, the last status of the back-end data is transferred to the replication database.

       7.      Monitor devices and transferred data

With the SAP NetWeaver Mobile Administrator, you monitor and manage mobile devices and data.

Result

Users have completed their tasks on the mobile device and exchanged data with the back end.
