Procedure documentation Creating a New Connection Entry  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

This procedure enables you to create a new connection entry to log on to the J2EE Engine under a different identity from the default one, or to log on using a different transport layer for your account.

Procedure

...

       1.      Run the Visual Administrator tool.

The Connection dialog appears. If it does not appear, then choose Connect Login from the menu path.

       2.      Choose New.

The dialog for creating a new connection entry appears.

       3.      Specify a name for the new connection dialog and choose whether you want to look up the connection using the Message Server or to obtain a direct connection to the dispatcher.

Note

If you know the P4 connection port of the dispatcher you want to connect to, you can choose the direct connection.

       4.      Choose Next.

Creating a Connection

Using the Message Server

Using a Direct Connection to the Dispatcher

...

       1.      To obtain a connection via the message server, specify:

                            a.      user name

                            b.      host

                            c.      HTTP port number

Note

For more information about formation of the Message Server port number, see SAP Note 730400.

       2.      Choose a load balancing method for the connection – specifies whether you connect to the dispatcher random or manually.

       3.      Specify the transport layer type and modify its settings if required.

                            a.      Default – the connection is done using RMI/P4 protocol.

                            b.      NI – the SAP Network Interface (NI) layer enables you to connect to a SAProuter. If you use this layer, you have to specify the route string that defines the connection path to the SAProuter.

Note

The SAProuter is a program that acts as part of a firewall. It enables you to manage network security and the routing of traffic to and from the system. It also establishes an indirect connection between your network and external networks.

You can define which connections are allowed, not allowed or protected by password access.

       4.      Choose Save.

...

       1.      To obtain a direct connection to the dispatcher, specify:

                            a.      user name

                            b.      host

                            c.      HTTP port number

       2.      Specify also the connection transport layer type:

                            a.      Default.

                            b.      SSL – use this option if you want to enable encrypted client-server communication.

                            c.      HTTP Tunneling – use this option if the communication is via a proxy or firewall.

                            d.      You can specify the HTTP Tunneling proxy host and port by choosing Settings.

                            e.      HTTPS – this transport layer includes both HTTP Tunneling and SSL features. The communication between the Visual Administrator tool and the J2EE Engine is performed via proxies and firewalls, using cryptographic security.

                              f.      You can specify the HTTP Tunneling proxy host and port by choosing Settings.

Note

To use the SSL or HTTPS layer, you must have the Key Storage service and SSL Provider service running. To use HTTP Tunneling you must also have the HTTP Tunneling service started.

If one of these services is stopped, select it and choose Start Service.

                            g.      NI

Recommendation

We recommend that you use the SSL connection, otherwise there is a security risk as the passwords are in plain text format by default.

       3.      Choose Save.

..

Result

The name of the new connection entry is displayed in the logon dialog. Select it from the list and choose Connect to log on to the J2EE Engine.
