Master Data and Settings for Kanban In order that you, as customer, can implement kanban processing in the
SAP Supply Network Collaboration
(
SAP SNC
), you must set up the required master data in
SAP SNC
. In addition to the general master data for supplier collaboration in SAP SNC, kanban-specific master data (kanban control cycles and supply areas) is necessary for kanban processing. You can create this master data manually in the SAP SNC system. If you use an SAP system as your back-end system (as of SAP R/3 4.6C or as of SAP DI 4.6C2 for an automotive system) and have already set up control cycles and supply areas, you can transfer this data to SAP SNC using the
report KANBAN_MD_TRANSMIT
. With regard to this master data, the back-end system is the leading system. If kanban master data changes in the back-end system, you update the master data in
SAP SNC
using the report. (You can lock kanbans, for example.)
You must also create the following supplier collaboration master data for kanban processing in SAP SNC:
Model 000
Planning version 000
Ship-from location
Customer location
Factory calendar
Products
Business partner (customer)
Business partner (supplier)
Internet user for customer and supplier
Transportation lane between ship-from location and customer location and means of transport
You must assign a means of transport to the transportation lane. The system uses the transportation time for scheduling ASNs that the supplier creates for empty kanbans.
You must either transfer the following kanban-specific master data from an SAP back-end system to SAP SNC or create it manually in SAP SNC:
Control Cycle
If you want to procure a product from a supplier for a specific supply area in the customer location with kanban, a control cycle must be available in
SAP SNC
for this combination of customer, supplier, customer location, supplier location, product, and supply area. You can manually create control cycles in SAP SNC on the
SAP Easy Access
screen, by choosing
The kanban control cycle contains the following data:
Control cycle category
The following control cycle categories are available:
Classic kanban
Event-driven kanban
The control cycle category is displayed in the kanban overview. The control cycle category does not have a control function in SAP SNC.
Container quantity
This is the quantity that each container of a kanban control cycle can contain.
Reference Document
For a control cycle, you must specify the number of the scheduling agreement or the contract in the back-end system to which the kanban requests for the control cycle refer. SAP SNC can use the reference document to determine the control cycle ID for a kanban request (
ReplenishmentOrderNotification
) at receipt.
Alternatively, the
ReplenishmentOrderNotification
can also contain a control cycle ID directly.
Supply area
You must enter a name in the control cycle for the supply area.
Response time
The response time is an SAP SNC-specific parameter that you use in
SAP SNC
to generate
alerts
for late supplier responses to empty kanbans. You cannot transfer this parameter from the SAP back-end system. Rather, you must enter the parameter in
SAP SNC
in the control cycle. In
SAP SNC
, the /SCA/DM_KNBN_SETDEF_RESTIME report allows you to define a control-cycle-independent default response time for all control cycles of a customer. For online processing, you call the report on the
SAP Easy Access
screen, by choosing
.
Packaging material
Here you specify the product number of the kanban container material. (You must have created a location product master for the packaging material.) The product number of the packaging material is displayed in the kanban processing Web UI. In the packaging function of ASN processing, there is no validation check which forces the supplier to use this packaging material for packing.

Descriptions of supply areas
You can also transfer descriptions of supply areas from the SAP back-end system. If there are no descriptions in the SAP back-end system, you create the descriptions in the SAP SNC system. To do so, on the
SAP Easy Access
screen, choose
.
Set up the following data for ASNs:
If you want the supplier to perform standard packing for kanban ASNs, you must make the settings for packing.
You must also set up number assignment for kanban requests.
For more information about the settings that are necessary for a kanban scenario with an SAP back-end system, for example for inbound and outbound message processing or for processing goods receipts in ASN processing, see the Configuration Content for SAP Solution Manager under .
