 Component Assignment Rule

Definition

Rule with which you assign external input and output components to the phases of a phase structure.

External components are components that you cannot assign directly to the phases in the phase structure. Instead, these components stem from a subcontract order or from a suitable source of supply for in-house production in SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO). Possible sources of supply for in-house production are the production process model (PPM) or product data structure (PDS) for Supply Network Planning. SAP Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC) can copy the external components to the work order when creating the work order.

Use

You must use a component assignment rule in the following master data scenarios:

  • Components from the subcontract order

In the phase structure for a phase, you have made settings so that the phase is to use the subcontracting components, the co-products, and the product from the subcontract order. You have also made settings so that the system uses a component assignment rule to assign the subcontracting components to the phases. (This is the option X for the Use of Components from the Subcontract Order .) In the component assignment rule, you determine which external components belong to which phase. In the standard system (without a component assignment rule), the system assigns the input components from the subcontract order to the first phase of the work order as the input components, and assigns the output components to the last production phase of the work order. For more information, see Use of Components from the Subcontract Order .

  • Components from the PPM or PDS

In the master data assignment for work order configuration, you have made settings so that the system creates work orders using the phases of a phase structure and components from the SAP APO source of supply for in-house production. You must use the component assignment rule to determine which components belong to which phase.

Example

Subcontract orders for Product A contain the subcontracting components COMP_A1 and COMP_A2. You create work orders for these subcontract orders using the phase structure PHASE_STRUCTURE_A. You have defined the phases PHASE_1 and PHASE_2 for the phase structure. For both phases, you have made settings so that the phases use the subcontracting components from the subcontract order in addition to the components assigned directly. The system is to use a component assignment rule to assign these components to the phases (option X). (In the standard system, in other words, without a component assignment rule, the system would assign both components as input components to the phase PHASE_1).

If you want to make settings so that the system assigns the subcontracting component COMP_A2 to the phase PHASE_2, define a component assignment rule RULE_A with the following entry:

Entry 1

Component assignment rule RULE_A

Phase PHASE_2

Product COMP_A2

In master data assignment, enter the phase structure PHASE_STRUCTURE_A and the component assignment rule RULE_A.
