Procedure documentation Checking Tapes After a Logical-Log Backup (ON-Archive and ontape)  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

After a logical-log backup with ON-Archive or ontape , perform the check described below. This makes sure that the tapes can be read successfully, if you need to do a restore. For more information about performing a restore, see Restore.

Procedure

  1. Mount the tape to be checked on your tape device and then enter the following command:
  2. $ ondatartr ‘LIST/TAPE=(<tape device>)’

    For example, if your tape device was dev/rmt/0m , you would enter:

    $ ondatartr ‘LIST/TAPE=(dev/rmt/0m)’

  3. If the result of this check shows a problem, see SAP Note 61624.

Caution

A faulty tape could endanger the integrity of your database. If you need to do a restore and you use a tape that has failed the legibility check, the restore will fail.
