Procedure documentationValidating Business Requirements

A business process expert has identified the need for a change and has created a business requirement. As the business manager, you now have to check and approve the business requirement.

Prerequisites

  • A business requirement has been created that documents the required function or feature.

  • The business requirement has the status Submitted for Validation.

  • You have the business role REQUESTER (also see Authorizations).

Procedure

  1. In the Requirements Management view, open the business requirement that you want to validate.

  2. Open the Actions menu and decide how you want to proceed:

    • To reject the business requirement, choose Reject. The requirement is then set to Rejected and the process is complete.

    • To return the business requirement to the business process expert for further clarification, choose Send to Requester. The status of the requirement is then set to Define.

    • To add further information to the requirement and approve it, choose Check. The status of the requirement changes to Being Checked.

  3. Review the data that has been entered for the business requirement and add any further information that may be required.

  4. Decide how to proceed:

    • If you still require further information from the business process expert, choose Start of the navigation path Actions Next navigation step Cancel Check End of the navigation path.

The status of the business requirement is set back to Submitted for Validation, from which it can be returned to the business process expert (see above).

    • If you want to reject the business requirement, choose Start of the navigation path Actions Next navigation step Reject End of the navigation path.

The business requirement is closed and the process ends.

    • If you want to approve the business requirement, choose Start of the navigation path Actions Next navigation step Approve End of the navigation path.

The status of the business requirement is set to Handed Over to IT and an IT requirement is automatically generated.

    • If you want to put the business requirement on hold until later, choose Start of the navigation path Actions Next navigation step Postpone End of the navigation path.

The status of the business requirement changes to Postponed. From there, it can be rejected or resubmitted for checking at a later date.

  5. Save your changes.

Note Note

The requirement must still be committed by both the IT department and the business department before it can be implemented.

End of the note.
