Function documentationChecking the Use of the BW History Program for a Metric

The program Check Metric BW History shows the history data for the last 24 hours in the Business Warehouse (BW), for a metric.

The metric monitor is one of the applications which show the history of the monitoring data in BW. By default, the Metric Monitor shows the data for the last 24 hours. Use this program if the Metric Monitor (or another application which shows BW history data) shows no data for a metric, and for troubleshooting you want to know whether there is any history data for the last 24 hours in BW.

In troubleshooting, you can then restrict the possible causes, whether there is data in BW for the Metric Monitor (or another application) to display, whether the error is one of missing data or in the application.

Activities

Call Program

To display the historical data of a metric, call the transaction MAI_TOOLS. Go to expert mode, and, in the Analysis tab, choose Check BW History for a Metric.

Select a Metric

When you call the program, a selection screen, in which you can make the following entries, appears:

  • Context ID

  • Metric ID

  • Metric Path

These three entries uniquely specify a metric in the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI). The metric path is only required if there is more than one metric for a metric type in a managed object, which is unusual. A typical example is the metric type Using the File System, which has several metrics (one per file system), distinguished by their metric path (file system name), per managed object (host).

If you do not know the required values for the metric, you can determine them as follows:

  • You can determine the metric and context IDs with various tools, for example the Directory Browser, in which these IDs are output for a metric in the Others tab.

  • To determine metric paths, use the program Analyze BW Mapping Tables, filter by context ID (CONTEXT_ID) and metric ID (TYPE_ID) and display the MAP_CURR List. The metric path is output in the Metric Path column.

Display Information

Specify the metric whose history data for the last 24 hours you want to display, and choose Execute (Execute). The requested information is displayed as a list, with timestamp and measured values.
